Brownlee 5k – May

May at the Brownlee 5k and the second chance to post a time to count towards round one of the club road championship.

29 Harriers were out on a lovely evening for what is turning into a great chance to grab a 5k PB.  Also its becoming more than just a 5k race as Hyde Park Harriers are proving the great support they have for each other on the bridge for each of the 2 races.

Fastest Harrier on the night and jumping to the top of the time sheets for the Premier division was Philip Goose in a time of 17.10, his thoughts on his actual run aren’t for posting on a family friendly website ha.  So more to come from Phil going forward but a cracking time on the board.

Next home and leading the 1st division times was Michael Vargas with a 17.36 “Died after 2k but struggled my way to a sub 18.  Progress is being made”.

Adam Lomas was next with 17.42 and leads the 2nd division times.

In the ladies Amy Young came home in a time of 19.23 and is leading the 1st division times “Course PB of 19.23 for me today and 3rd lady.  It felt too much like hard work but looking at my splits I can see why (went off too fast, surprise surprise).  Thanks as always for the cheers and a great photo at the end”.

Clare Evans was next and heads the premier division times with a 21.58 “The first mile was great!  Then my splits went a bit south.  Had to pull myself together to dip under 22.  Ah well there’s always next month”.

3rd Harrier lady home and now leading the 2nd division times was Beth Rendall “Delighted with a 22.03 after a month of post marathon injury and almost no running.  20 seconds off a PB and more to come next time”.

As always there was great running and PB’s through out the field and below you can see some of the comments –

Mark Haddrill – “1 second quicker than last time with a time of 19.40, alas still 2 seconds off my PB”.

Scott Watson – “Thanks for the support everyone and great running from you all too.  I’m absolutely delighted to get 17.47 seeing as I’m on the comeback.  A bit off a PB but definite progress”.

John Blatherwick – “Sub 20 for the 1st time!!  Just the small 47 second PB this time”.

Claire Hougham – “Another 30+ seconds off my PB.  So over a minute off in 2 races.  1st time under 28 minutes, just a little bit happy”.

James Underwood – “Great to wear the HPH vest for the 1st time.  Support was great as were all the kind words when I finished.  Was hoping for better as I was a good minute slower than my 5k PB but it was great to be a harrier and I look forward to pulling myself together for the 3rd lap next time out”.

Chris Hassall – “Yes!  That sweary sprint at the end squeaked me under 21 mins for the first time ever.  Thanks everyone for the amazing support as always”.

Paul Dickens – “Hated every second.  Felt confident I’d break 22 mins having done a 10k in 44.06 and a parkrun in 22.15.  Flogged myself to death for 22.34 felt like running in treacle”.

Richard Edwards – “24.01 my fastest time there, 2nd fastest 5k ever so knocking on that sub 24 door again.  Got taken down in a great sprint finish by Rafet, love all the support”.

Jo Rhodes – “Seriously chuffed with a new PB of 22.31 and even more pleased it means that ‘ve managed to keep myself out of the A race!  You guys outdid yourself on the bridge tonight – felt like you were all carrying me round”.

Claudia Bauer – “Slower than last time and over 3 minutes away from my 5k PB but I did my best so I’m pleased”.

Emma Amor – “Super happy with a new PB of 22.58, thank you so much for all the cheers”.

Chris Carrick – “19.19 not a PB but a good time for me on tired legs – more importantly I enjoyed it which is in no small part due to the incredible support.  Cheers all”.

Tobias Adkins – “A course PB of 18.29 for me (and the 2nd time I’ve ever gone under 18.30).  Its always a tough run but it was great seeing so many red and white vests around the course.  Really spurred me on and the cheer squad was brilliant as ever, thanks guys”.

Eleanor Colman – “1st one for me and 5k PB with 27.30.  Claire Hougham was pushing me the whole way.  The cheer squad was ace, great to be part of such an awesome group of runners”.

Vicky Houghton – “2349 – 40 seconds faster than last race and a 33 seconds 5k PB.  Just need to beat my parkrun PB now of 23.43 that I ran in September 2013, fingers crossed for next race”.

Mike Gallagher – “I managed to sneak into the sub 18 club at 17.59.  Very happy with that considering the tired legs from Calderdale and finishing night shifts, so definite progress.  Thanks for the brilliant cheer squad as usual”.

Rafet Ongun – “Got exactly 24.00 (I thought it was a PB but Strava thinks I’ve run a sub 24 before).  It was my first time here, thoroughly enjoyed it especially with the amazing HPH support.  Proud to be a Hyde Park Harrier”.

Ben Hartley – “Was always going to be a tough one, having raced in Manchester only 3 days before but I was happy to come away with a 2 second PB over my best parkrun time of 17.52.  It was good experience for me”.
