Kirkstall Abbey 7
Sunday 18th September saw the ever popular Kirkstall Abbey 7 race organised by the Kirkstall Harriers. A 6.7 mile multi-terrain, mostly flat course starting and finishing within the spectacular grounds of Kirkstall Abbey. The route takes in riverside paths and the canal towpath as well as road and the grounds of the Abbey
As is becoming the norm it had a cracking entry of Hyde Park Harriers on what was a round of our Club Competitor and the 5th round of the Off Road Championship. 38 Harriers (20 men and 18 ladies) gathered on a perfect morning for it and it was great to see lots of regulars returning for the first time this year and new faces to the club getting there first race in.
The first Harrier home was Michael Vargas, scoring his first off road points of the year in the 2nd division and an excellent 6th overall. He finished 30 seconds and 4 places ahead of Scott Watson who took his 4th maximum division one score out of 5 events.
Mike Gallagher was next in 21st and scored his first points of the year in the first division while Colin Tranter came home in 23rd but more importantly took maximum points in the premier division. He has only done 3 of the 5 rounds so far but taken top points each time.
Jimmy Sheldon continued his good run of results finishing 1 place behind Colin and picking up 3rd place points in the 1st division with Charlie Jackett not to far behind.
Rachel Eales was first Harrier lady home in 48th which was an excellent 2nd lady overall. She scored top premier division points on her first outing of the year.
The top 3 Harrier ladies turned out to be on there first outings as Jennifer Gridley was next and Harrier Shaw 3rd and taking maximum points in the 1st and 2nd divisions.
Lois Gardner scored well again getting 2nd place points in the 1st division with Dote Stone not far behind her. Laura Cummings was 2nd home in the Premier division and Honor Baldry 2nd in the 2nd division.
Some excellent results through out the field and great to see your Poppy getting a medal in the mile and then stopping to cheer on with her mom Nicola.
