How to join our Tuesday club runs - Read More
Pudsey 10k
The British summer chose the Pudsey 10k weekend to be at its warmest and so it was that 25 Harriers (12 men and 13 ladies) made the short trip to Pudsey Leisure Centre for what was to be a scorcher on a tough course. This was round 4 of the club off road championship.
The route starts off on the road and then heads into the woods and gravel tracks with the hills before heading back down the roads. The hills and heat took there toll and made it one of the hardest 10k’s some had done.
First of the Hyde Park Harriers home was Chris Smith in a strong 16th place overall and a time of 43.27. This was his second off road start of the year and he claimed his second top points haul in the Premier division.
3 places and 46 seconds back was Adam Lomas who like Chris was on his second start and took his second maximum points haul this time in the 2nd division.
3rd Harrier in 29th place and a time of 45.47 was Scott Watson who really enjoyed it, while Mark Haddrill came home in 79th. Mark missed being in all the pre race pics again but enjoyed the run despite the heat and hills and was pretty happy with his time.
Andrew Mitchell who is a fairly new member has become a welcome regular to the races and came home in 105th before Jeremy Forber came home in 186th scoring top points in the 1st division, his first top score from 3 starts.
The rest of the HPH men was made up of John Blatherwick in 205th, Curtis Broadhead in 209th and just out sprinted Paul Dickens in 210th. For Paul he has been struggling with injury, his leg hurt for the first 2k then felt better for the steeper hills and rough ground. All told he was happy with time and shows he is nearly healed and leads the 1st division.
Next was Richard Edwards in 275th who felt he had a shocker and just went backwards through the field but leads the premier division at this stage, followed by 2nd division leader Chris Bracchi in 283rd and finally Steven Brown in 418th.
For the ladies it was Nichola Moreland who was first home in 130th place and a time of 54.15. This was her second off road championship start of the year having picked up 2nd place points last time out this time is was maximum points in the 2nd division even though she thought the conditions were killer and so was the second hill.
Next home in 176th and taking top points in the premier division and again like Nichola going one better then last time was Clare Evans. She didn’t attempt to run the hills and was surprised with a 30 seconds course PB and has closed to within 1 point of the division leader Rebecca Gray who missed this round.
Claiming top points in the 1st division and 187th place overall was Honor Baldry. Will anyone be able to stop Honor as this was her 4th maximum points haul from 4 rounds. The hose pipe part way round was her highlight and any time targets went out the window and it just became a case of survival.
Alison Pullan was not far back in 197th, before Maika Ohno in 206th who was also getting photos while on route. Claudia Bauer was next in 231st with Dote Stone one place back before 2nd division leader Jane-Marie Bracchi in 234th. She loved the route and the T-shirt and the lady with the hosepipe.
Emma Brown was 243rd, Caroline Sanders 299th and didn’t really care about time. She ran as much and as fast as she could in the conditions and walked those awful hills (her words!) “Great atmosphere and morning plus I saw donkeys”.
Next up in 330th was Naomi Farrar “I looked like I’d been for a swim by the end, it was so tough and I could have hugged the bloke with the ice cold water at the top of the biggest hill”.
Emma Amor was next in 359th before Sara in 428th who thought it was too hot but loved seeing all the Hyde Park Harriers.
Thanks to Noel Akers and Philip Bland for the action pics.
