Snowdonia Half – Andrew Maddock

Today was a tough day for me, I decided to take on the Snowdonia half marathon (toughest half in the uk) without really doing any training, i know its sounds silly. Only managed a few 3 mile runs in the last 4 weeks so was not expecting a quick time.

The course starts off flat for under 1/2 a mile and then the hills start. The first hill is steep for about 2.5 miles then it’s undulating till around mile 4 when the climb starts again. A great lap of 2 lakes on Snowdonia and a mile downhill section before you climb up again.

Just when you think the hills are over you have just over half a mile on a hill 1:7 at mile 11. That wiped my legs out and on the downhill to the finish my calf’s were agony.

It’s a great event and I am going to do it again. I finished in a time of 2hr 17mins 57 secs. Great medal and t-shirt and I decided to purchase a hoody. Not sure I will be walking tomorrow tho.
