Christmas parkrunday 2024
There were 61 HPH women and 60 HPH men out parkrunning across 47 venues worldwide on Christmas Day.
Eight Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. One of these courses was new to the HPH list. This was Pirrama in Sydney, Australia by Anna Grugel Smith. Pirrama Park occupies 1.8 hectares of harbourside space. It opened in 2010 following the redevelopment of the waterfront area as a public space after the local community rejected the original plans for high-rise apartments. It has spectacular views of Sydney Harbour, the Harbour Bridge, and Anzac Bridge. It is the perfect spot for watching the fireworks exploding across Sydney on New Year’s Eve. It contains a children’s playground; barbecues; shade structures; grassed areas; a boardwalk; and toilet facilities. It also has some great sculptures. The parkrun course is two laps between the wooden boardwalk and Anzac Bridge along the shore.
There was one first finishing Hyde Park Harrier. This was Amy Ramsden-Young in a PB time of 20:32 at Harlow. There were fourteen other PBs. These were by Andrew Black with 19:09, Paul Robinson with 19:38 and Caite Burke with 22:19 at Woodhouse Moor; Richard Knighton with 17:17:27 at York; Frazer Carr with 17:12 at Norwich; Michael Godsall with 23:48 at Gunnersby; Steve Worthington with 21:12 at Ferry Meadows; Ed Shakespeare with 20:30 at Linford Wood; Rosalie Dang with 27:49 at Seddgefield; Hannah Sutton with 27:39 at Goole; Paul Ramsden with 24:46 at Harlow; Matilda Rhodes with 25:32 at Widnes; Conor Gould with 23:06 at Blyth Links and Victoria Smith with 27:08 at Chevin Forest.
There weren’t any new members of the official parkrun clubs, but Jaz Bangerh reached 700 parkruns with her run at Woodhouse Moor.
Top female Age Grade% was 73.05% by Amy Ramsden-Young at Harlow and top male Age Grade% was 75.19% by Ian Martinson at Hull and Frazer Carr at Norwich.
