parkrunday 21st June 2025

There were 59 HPH women and 70 HPH men out parkrunning across 47 venues worldwide this week.

Twenty-two Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Four of these courses were new to the HPH list. These were Carlingwark Loch in Scotland by Emma Amor; Oughterard in Ireland by Clare Slorach; SETU Arena in Ireland by Chris Worfolk; and Winthrop Trailhead in USA by Tami Bond.

The Carlingwark Loch parkrun course is three laps on tarmac and grass paths in the park adjacent to the small freshwater Carlingwark Loch in Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway. There are four artificial islets in the loch showing evidence of fortification and settlement. Several archaeological finds have been retrieved from the loch including a bronze cauldron, sword and pan and two dugout canoes. The loch is popular for bird watching and fishing. The land around it has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest on account of its varied birdlife and grassland.

Oughterard parkrun course is three laps on trail paths and grass around Corribdale Park, Oughterard, County Galway. Oughterard is a small town on the banks of the Owenriff River close to the western shore of Lough Corrib in Connemara. One of the fastest-growing towns in Ireland, it had a population of 1,846 in 2022, an increase of 40.1% from the 2016 census. Corribdale Park is a Community Leisure Facility with a Kids Playground; Teen Zone; Walking/Running Trail; Sensory Garden; Wooded Area; and Open Green Space.

SETU Arena parkrun course is four laps on gravel paths around the SETU (South East Technological University) Arena West Campus in Waterford. Dogs are not allowed at this event. The West Campus is one of a cluster of five within a three mile radius around the city of Waterford. Opened in September 2016, the €20 million state-of-the-art SETU Arena is a centrepiece of the campus. Serving both students and the public, SETU Arena accommodates up to 2,000 people and stands as one of the premier sporting, exercise, and conference venues in the south east of Ireland. In addition to grass, all-weather, and support facilities, the Arena provides cutting-edge sports and exercise amenities, gymnasiums, and lecture rooms, supporting both academic programmes and athletic excellence.

Winthrop Trailhead parkrun takes place in Winthrop, WA. The parkrun course starts at the Winthrop Trailhead. It is two laps on the TWiN (Twisp-to-Winthrop) Trail loop (gravel trail), followed by an out-and back on the Susie Stephens Trail (paved trail), finishing with just over two more laps back on the TWiN Trail loop. Winthrop is a small town in Okanogan County, Washington. The population was 504 at the 2020 census. The area around Winthrop developed into a destination for outdoor recreation in the middle of the 20th century with the opening of several dude ranches and resorts. Winthrop adopted an Old West theme for its downtown architecture in 1971, making it a tourist destination. Being in a small remote location means the Winthrop Trailhead parkrun usually has fairly small attendances, so it provides a great opportunity for a high placed finish for tourists. Tami Bond took full advantage and recorded her second first female finisher as well as her first overall first finisher.

There were three first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Thomas Moulding in 17:21 at Roundhay; Clare Slorach in 21:25 at Oughterard; and Tami Bond in 32:43 at Winthrop Trailhead. There were fourteen PBs. These were by Lee Taylor with 21:13 at Richmond; Callum Starling (on his wedding day) with 18:30 and Alice Houldcroft with 28:18 at Woodhouse Moor; Coralie Bell with 18:43 at Hull; Sam Townson with 18:41, Mike Gallagher with 19:19, Emily Martinson with 24:01 and Lydia Green with 27:56 at Roundhay; Edward Hale with 22:00 at Dewsbury; Aisling Davis with 24:36 at Buckingham; Alexandra Natalie Smith with 29:18 at Potternewton; and Reuben Keating with 17:38, Ralph Kidner with 27:22 and Andrea Sendula with 31:15 at Chevin Forest.

Top female Age Grade% was 79.07% by Coralie Bell at Hull and top male Age Grade% was 74.74% by Thomas Moulding at Roundhay.
