This week there were 54 HPH women and 69 HPH men out parkrunning across 47 venues worldwide.
Seventeen Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Two of these courses were new to the HPH list. These were Southall in London by Edward Hale and Oaklands College in St Albans by Liz and Chris Jones.
Southall is famous for its vibrant, large South Asian community, earning it the nickname “Little India”. It is known for authentic food, colourful shops, and a bustling market, as well as hosting major Sikh and Hindu festivals such as Diwali and Vaisakhi. In the transport world Southall Railway Station is renowned for being one of the few stations in England with bilingual signage – in both English and the Punjabi. The parkrun course is three laps on tarmac paths around Southall Park. The park is mainly formal parkland with areas for nature conservation and recreation. It has a playground, play centre, tennis court, and a shared multi use games areas (MUGA) with Villiers High School. Other features include a mosaic globe and a water cascade.
Oaklands College describes itself as a leading educational provider in Hertfordshire, delivering over 300 vocational and academic courses, supporting students of all ages in achieving their career goals. The Oaklands Wolves sports academy combines elite coaching with academic excellence. The St Albans campus features a working farm and zoo. The parkrun course is one short and two longer out and back sections. Turns are well marshalled and signposted (although Steve Darby would no doubt still get lost). It is run on a mixture of grass, concrete and gravel tracks.
There were no first finishing Hyde Park Harriers! However, there were two second finishers. These were Thomas Moulding in a PB time of 18:23 at Lister Park and Daniel Richardson in a PB time of 21:07 at Fulwell Quarry. There were three other PBs. These were Megan Foster with 22:50 at Woodhouse Moor; Eleanor Williams with 27:24 at Highbury Fields; and Gordon Crawford with 23:07 at Roundhay.
There were no new members of any of the parkrun clubs this week. Of note however was Paul Sawyer who reached a grand total of 300 parkruns with his run at Woodhouse Moor.
Top female Age Grade% was 71.61% by Amy Ramsden-Young at Woodhouse Moor and top male Age Grade% was 79.38% by Gordon Crawford at Roundhay.
