There were 58 HPH women and 53 HPH men out parkrunning across 52 venues worldwide this week.

Thirty Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Three of these courses were new to the HPH list. These were Coronation Park in Swadlincote by George Sullivan; Newport Lakes in Australia by Louise Gardham; and Ełk in Poland by Artur Klepacz.

Coronation Park is a new fifty acre country park in Swadlincote, South Derbyshire. It opened in April 2023 and is named to commemorate the coronation of Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort in May 2023. The park includes footpaths and cycleways, a picnic area and community orchard, as well as new habitats to protect and promote local wildlife, with the site being home to bats, owls, coots, swans, geese and kingfishers. At the heart of the green space is a memorial pit wheel, providing a poignant reminder of the site’s rich mining history and commemorating the lives of former colliery workers. Cherry trees were planted in Coronation Park as part of the Sakura Cherry Tree Project. This marks 150 years of Japan-UK friendship and the continued cooperation between the two nations. Cherry blossom (sakura) is the national flower of Japan. The parkrun course is three laps with twists and turns around the park.

Newport Lakes parkrun course is in the Melbourne suburb of Newport. The course is technical with uneven terrain, some sharp hills and a lot of turns. Dogs are not allowed at this event. Newport Lakes Reserve is a bushland oasis created from a former bluestone quarry and rubbish tip site. The park is 33 hectare in size. The lakes area of the park has been extensively revegetated using native plants, with over 200 species of plants and 85 species of birds recorded here.

Ełk parkrun course is a generally flat out and back on asphalt paths along the edge of Ełk Lake to the west of the city of Ełk. It starts and finishes at the city beach. Ełk is a city in north-eastern Poland. Ełk Lake was formed by a glacier and is surrounded by extensive forests. One of the principal attractions in the area is legal hunting.

There weren’t any first finishing Hyde Park Harriers, although there were five second finishing. These were Jonathan Coade in 19:21 at Dewsbury; Cara Gates with a PB time of 21:26 at Cleethorpes; Clare Slorach in 21:37 at Nothallerton; Thomas Moulding in 17:47 at Potternewton; and Tobias Adkins in 19:07 at Cusworth Hall. There were seven other PBs. These were by Edward Hale with 17:52 at Woodhouse Moor; Nick Shakhlevich with 18:29 at Harrogate; Andrew Black with 18:35 at Rothwell; Ellie Shipp with 28:59 at Cross Flatts; Clare Evans with 22:10 and David Hould with 26:39 at Roberts Park; and Frazer Carr with 18:43 at Bug Hunter Waters.

Louise Gardham joined the parkrun 250 club with her run at Newport Lakes.

Top female Age Grade% was 72.28% by Jane Prust at Withernsea Promenade and top male Age Grade% was 73.45% by Andrew Black at Rothwell.
