There were 65 HPH women and 67 HPH men out parkrunning across 54 venues worldwide this week.
Thirty-four Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Three of these courses were new to the HPH list. These were Skinadin on the Isle of Skye by Robert Butler; Newry Greenway in Northern Ireland by Ciara Crossan; and The Grand Canal Way in Ireland by Chris Worfolk.
Skinadin course is an out and back route on a mixture of forest tracks and hardcore trails along the Skinadin Forest Trail just north of Broadford on the Isle of Skye. Lying in the shadow of the Red Cuillin mountains, the trail has scenic views over Scalpay, Pabay and the Crowlin Islands. A variety of marine life can be seen in Broadford Bay including otters, seals and occasionally orca whales. The opening sequence from the 1980 film Flash Gordon, was filmed at Broadford Airstrip in the summer of 1978.
Newry Greenway parkrun course is an out and back along the Newry Canal Greenway. The Greenway is a flat 20 mile long running from Portadown to Newry along the restored towpath of the former Newry Canal. It is part of a grand plan for a 1000km network of Greenways in Northern Ireland.
The Grand Canal Way parkrun course is a 3km loop approximately out and back, followed by a shorter 2km out and back approximately on the canal towpath in Tullamore. Tullamore is in the middle of the county Offaly. The Grand Canal Way is a 73 mile long-distance trail that follows the towpath of the canal from Lucan Bridge, near Adamstown in Dublin to Shannon Harbour in County Offaly. The town retained Gold Medal status in the National Tidy Town Awards in 2015 and also played host to the World Sheep Dog Trials in 2005. The town’s most famous export is Tullamore Dew – an Irish whiskey distilled by Tullamore Distillery.
There were two first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Clare Slorach in 20:51 at Woodhouse Moor and Edward Hale in a PB time of 18:10 at Armley. There were five other PBs. These were by Lee Taylor with 19:26 at Silksworth; Ellie Shipp with 32:48 at Gunnersbury; Andrew Black with 18:29 at Cross Flatts; Simon McGrath with 19:08 at Widnes; and Jason Newell with 29:01 at Potternewton.
Emma Amor joined the parkrun 250 club with her run at Lochore Meadows.
Top female Age Grade% was 73.90% by Jane Prust at Scunthorpe and top male Age Grade% was 75.90% by Thomas Moulding at Woodhouse Moor.
