There were 59 HPH women and 60 HPH men out parkrunning across 45 venues worldwide this week.
Twenty-eight Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Two of these courses were new to the HPH list. These were Park in the Past by Teejay Jones and Mount Lucas in Ireland by Chris Worfolk.
Park in the Past is an exciting and innovative heritage and conservation project aiming to create a totally unique attraction and community resources by restoring and managing Fagl Lane Quarry near Wrexham in North East Wales.
Set in an ancient Welsh landscape, the park comprises 120 acres of outstanding natural beauty offering woodlands and wetlands, a magnificent 35-acre lake and the gorgeous River Alyn, as well as wonderful walks and spacious fields. Work is underway to build an amazing prehistoric realm and a full-scale Roman fort and Celtic village. The course is two loops going through the Roman fort followed by an out and back alongside the lake. The course is on concrete paths, mixed trail and grass. Deep in the heart of Park in the Past is Sauna Cwtch – a sanctuary of warmth, connection and deep relaxation and a place where fire and water meet, where strangers become friends and you are always treated like family.
Mountlucas parkrun is a single flat trail lap around the wind turbines at Mountlucas Wind Farm in Ballycon, County Offaly. The purpose of the Mountlucas Wind Farm is to generate renewable electricity for the domestic electricity market in Ireland. The Mountlucas Wind Farm is proud to offer a variety of amenities to enhance the enjoyment of the local community and visitors. These include a Sensory Garden filled with enticing sounds, scents, and textures, designed to delight; a 10km public walkway-cycleway around the wind farm that is accessible all year round during daylight hours; and a hands on, fun, educational, Learning Hub where visitors can explore and learn more about renewable energy and can take a virtual reality tour of the inside of one of the turbines. It is also home to a diverse range of wildlife including fallow deer, Irish hares, foxes, grey heron, mute swans and snipe.
There were four finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Abigail Prudhoe in a PB time of 22:47 at Roundhay; Clare Slorach in 22:09 at Temple Newsam; Thomas Moulding in 17:17 at Fountains Abbey; and Edward Hale in 18:21 at Penistone. There were six other PBs. These were by Richard Knighton in 18:50 at Wimbledon Common; Cara Gates in 23:04 at Harrogate; Naomi Gains in 22:24 at Barnsley; Hannah Sutton in 28:31 at Potternewton; and Ralph Kidner in 25:17 and David Hould in 27:09 at Roberts Park.
Nagendran Balaramal joined the parkrun 25 club with his run at Woodhouse Moor.
Top female Age Grade% was 71.76% by Samantha Tecwyn at Skipton and top male Age Grade% was 75.50% by Gordon Crawford at Roberts Park.
