There were 74 HPH women and 64 HPH men out parkrunning across 48 venues worldwide this week.

Twenty-eight Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Two of these courses were new to the HPH list. These were Newcastle West in Ireland by Chris Worfolk (not to be confused with Denton Dene parkrun to the west of Newcastle-upon-Tyne or The Wammy parkrun to the west of Newcastle-under-Lyme); and Exploration Place in Wichita, USA by Tami Bond.

Newcastle West is a small town in County Limerick, Ireland. It is the largest town in the county, excluding Limerick city. The Newcastle West parkrun course is in the Castle Demesne – a mature parkland of over 100 acres set in a secluded location within walking distance of Newcastle West town centre. The course is three laps on tarmac and is mainly flat. The Demesne provides a variety of leisure, play and sporting facilities, including a football pitch, playground, tennis courts and a skate park.

The Exploration Place parkrun is in Wichita, Kansas. The course is out and back across the Keeper of the Plains Bridge utilizing the riverfront bike path. The start/finish is at Exploration Place. The Keeper of the Plains is a 44 ft high steel sculpture by Kiowa-Comanche artist Blackbear Bosin. Surrounding the base of the statue are multiple displays which describe the local tribes that used to inhabit the area, as well as several fire pits which are sometimes lit to illuminate the statue at night. The statue was erected in 1974. It has since become one of Wichita’s most recognized and beloved symbols. Exploration Place is a science museum. It looks to me like Halifax “Eureka!” on steroids.

There were two first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Frazer Carr in 17:54 on his first time at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School and Thomas Moulding in 18:03 at Potternewton, There were sixteen PBs. These were by Ben Mepham with 21:20 at Woodhouse Moor; Ian Martinson with 24:54 at Teelissick; Lydia Williams with 32:08 at Arrow Valley; Jonathan Coade with 18:58 at Dewsbury; William Dow with 20:29 at Fountains Abbey; Nicki Derrick with 26:51 at Oakwell Hall; Paul Milligan with 25:17 at Panshanger; Becky Webb with 26:09 at Felixstowe; Kasia Lipka with 23:52, Caroline Young with 27:10, Sam Edwards with 34:30 and Jaz Bangerh with 37:01 at Middleton Woods; Emily Martinson with 22:56 and James Underwood with 28:20 at Potternewton; Steve Worthington with 22:28 at Chevin Forest; and Daniel Richardson with 21:33 at Fulwell Quarry.

Poppy Forwood joined the parkrun 250 club with her run at Potternewton.

Top female Age Grade% was 71.49% by Jane Prust at Middleton Woods and top male Age Grade% was 80.33% by Rupert Jordan at Town Moor.
