parkrunday 6th September 2025

There were 58 HPH women and 64 HPH men out parkrunning across 53 venues worldwide this week.

Seventeen Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Two of these courses were new to the HPH list. These were Shepton Mallet by Richard Knighton and Brooklyn Bridge in New York City by Tami Bond – her 21st parkrun venue in the USA.

Shepton Mallet parkrun is three mostly flat laps around Collett Park. Collett Park is the first park in the Mendip area to be awarded a prestigious Green Flag award. Extending to around 14 acres, the undulating grassland is surrounded by natural stone walls, flower beds, shrubs and numerous mature trees, with the centrepieces being an attractive Edwardian bandstand and a large lake. The park also includes the disused railway line that provides an elevated footpath along its southern edge. The park was gifted to the town of Shepton Mallet, by John Collett in 1906. As a boy, John Collett, was told off for playing in the fields that were privately owned at the time. After many years the land started to be auctioned off and John Collett accumulated several lots of land which he then gifted to the town. Due to the lack of a comma in the course description, narrow dogs aren’t allowed at Shepton Mallet parkrun.

Brooklyn Bridge parkrun is one lap taking in Piers 1,2,3,5 and 6 in the newly constructed Brooklyn Bridge Park that has been built on land that was formerly an industrial stretch of waterfront owned by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. After many disputes and lawsuits about how the land should be developed – as a park or used for residential or commercial use, it was eventually agreed to let the piers be developed as a park. Work began on the park in 2007 and it was completed in 2021. The park is an 85-acre world-class waterfront park with rolling hills, riverfront promenades, lush gardens, and spectacular city views. It has numerous recreational facilities, including playgrounds, basketball courts, sports fields, and Brooklyn’s newest roller skating rink.

There was one first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. This was Clare Slorach in 20:57 at Norwich. There were seven PBs. These were by Sohebuzzaman Khan with 25:30 at Woodhouse Moor; Hollie Imission with 28:19 at Rothwell; Andy Judd with 24:11 and Julie Robson with 34:17 at Penrith; Poppy Forward with 39:42 at Bramley; Beth Rose with 29:03 at Dalby Forest; and Edward Hale with 19:18 at Potternewton.

Michelle Dickson joined the parkrun 100 club with her run at Woodhouse Moor. Rob MacDowall joined the parkrun 25 club with his run at Rothwell.

Top female Age Grade% was 74.11% by Jane Prust at Armley and top male Age Grade% was 75.51% by Douglas Blackwood at York.

Here are the details of this week’s parkrunning Hyde Park Harriers.
