parkrunday 11th October 2025

There were 46 HPH women and 64 HPH men out parkrunning across 47 venues worldwide this week.

Thirty-four Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Two of these courses were new to the HPH list. These were Ushaw Historic House in Durham by Nicola Harold and Budapest Park in Toronto, Canada by Lucy Rider. Both locations were having their inaugural parkrun.

Ushaw Historic House was formerly the principal Roman Catholic seminary for the training of Catholic priests in the north of England. Until 2011 it was also a licensed hall of residence of Durham University. It is near the village of Ushaw Moor, County Durham, England. It is now a heritage and cultural tourist attraction. The house is known for its Georgian and Victorian Gothic architecture and listed nineteenth-century chapels. It now hosts a programme of art exhibitions, music and theatre events, alongside tearooms and a café. The parkrun course is two laps on a mixture of grass and trail round the perimeter of fields alongside the House.

Budapest Park is on the shore of Lake Ontario in Toronto. It includes a playground with toy dinosaurs, an accessible wheelchair swing, an ornamental fountain and a wading pool. The most prominent feature of the park is the “Freedom for Hungary” monument. Designed by Victor Tolgesy and erected in 1966, the monument commemorated the 10th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight of 1956. A plaque on the monument states: “In remembrance of the Hungarian freedom fight, October 23, 1956, where men, women and children gave their lives in the heroic struggle against the invading Soviet Army. This day marks the beginning of the downfall of Communism worldwide.” The parkrun course is a flat out and back along the shore of Lake Ontario. It includes a section of boardwalk. Whilst dogs are welcome, for very small dogs the gaps between the boards on the boardwalk could be awkward.

There were two first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Sam Townson in 17:57 at Lister Park and Clare Slorach in 20:02 at Cuningar Loop. There were four PBs. These were by Conor Goold with 23:10 at Whitley Bay; Rosalie Dang with 30:03 at Cross Flatts; Paul Milligan with 21:05 at Middleton Woods and Chris Jones with 23:54 at East Holmes Field.

Sarah Roberts joined the parkrun 250 club with her run at Endcliffe. Also of note Phil Hammond reached 200 parkruns and Lesley-Ann Donnell reached 300 parkruns with their runs at Woodhouse Moor.

Top female Age Grade% was 76.46% by Amy Ramsden-Young at Woodhouse Moor and top male Age Grade% was 78.90% by Frazer Carr at Battersea.

Here are the details of this week’s parkrunning Hyde Park Harriers.
