The Year-Long Relay

As part of the club’s 20th anniversary, we’re going to undertake a year-long relay! Don’t worry, we don’t have to be running all the time (nobody seemed keen on that particular idea…).

WHAT IS IT?

  • A chance for loads of our members and friends to celebrate our 20th year as a club together! Let’s find out how far can we collectively run between 01 January and 31 December!
  • All are welcome to take part – you can go as slow or fast and cover as little or as much distance you like.
  • There are absolutely no minimum requirements and we want as many people to get involved as possible.

HOW WILL IT WORK?

  • At any time, there will be a “baton holder” – whilst you are the baton holder, any runs you do count towards the relay!
  • To add your runs to the relay total, there are various options:
    • If you’re on Strava, you can tag the HPH 20th Anniversary Relay account – simply go to your activity and click “Manage Group” / “Add Others” and tag the relay account.
    • If you’re not on Strava but have recorded the run on a watch or phone, please email the GPX files to hello@hydeparkharriers.co.uk and we can add them manually to the relay account.
    • If you don’t record your runs, please email us a summary of the distance you covered (an estimate is fine).
  • The baton holder will carry the baton, which is a silicon bracelet (we have spares if it breaks!).
  • The baton holder can pass the baton on at any time (club sessions, parkrun, races, etc).
  • There will be a specific WhatsApp chat in the HPH WhatsApp community to enable coordination of the baton handovers.
  • When passing the baton on, please make sure the new baton holder understands how the relay works (refer them to this blog or the WhatsApp chat).
  • Ideally the baton will be passed on every couple of days – please try to avoid holding onto the baton for more than a week.
  • You can have the baton more than once, but please try to pass it on to someone who hasn’t already had it if at all possible.
  • Please take some pictures from your runs; it’d be great to see exactly where the baton gets to over the year!
  • You don’t need to be paid-up member of the club to take part – the more the merrier!
