🎼 Celebrating Hyde Park Harriers’ 20th Anniversary – Club playlist!🎶
As part of Hyde Park Harrier’s 20th Anniversary celebrations – we’re compiling a playlist of our members favourite or most notable running-related songs.
We asked you if there was a song that reminded you of a particular race, or run, or simply a song that you love to run to!
Lot of you got in touch with a song and your reason to form the ultimate running playlist (well, you be the judge!)
You can find the playlist in Spotify here or below:
It’s not too late to get involved! You can still submit your running song here (one per runner please!).
The explanations behind the songs…
Keep On Running – Tom Jones – Submitted by Alex Holmes
This magically always seems to come on towards the end of my runs and gives me that little push to the end
Focus Is Power – Self Esteem -Submitted by Sarah Jewers
I did so many of my weekday training sessions for the Y3P Fell Race to this song, usually the warm up and then the cool down/run home at the end – I think it helped me stay focused and trust the process and whilst it wasn’t my day on race day, I do look back on my training runs quite fondly, especially as they had a cracking soundtrack!
100% endurance – Yard Act – Submitted by Ally
While it may not be the most high tempo song, the message behind the song is great and on the days when running feels pointless it makes you think, well it’s not. Also they are from Leeds which is cool.
No Time to Cry – Sisters of Mercy – Submitted by Dan Donnelly
The ideal pre-PECO reality check
I’m still standing – Elton John – Submitted by Abi Thornley
This always seems to come on when im struggling on a run and it always gives me the boost I need to keep going!
Under the Sea – Samuel E Wright / Disney – Submitted by Grace Roberts
I know it’s a silly song, but when I lived by myself in Belfast during the covid era, I would always start every run with this song as it set the tone for a positive mood and an enjoyable run! (and I do mean literally every single run!).
Fireball – Pitbull – Submitted by Jasbir Bangerh
It powers my head to power my legs!
Triptico – Gotan Project – Submitted by Andy Judd
It always makes me smile and is nicely paced as a pick me up on a long run, it builds and never loses interest as the instruments take turns to solo.
Shine A Little Light – The Black Keys – Submitted by Megan
This song went onto my running playlist when I first started running nearly three years ago in a completely different city! Always makes me think of some of my first runners highs whilst tackling hills
One Moment in Time – Whitney Houston – Submitted by Paul Sawyer
No reason provided!
Push the feeling on – Nightcrawlers – Submitted by Yasmin
An upbeat tune that usually makes it onto my playlist for longer runs 🙂
All my pride – Black Honey – Submitted anonymously
Makes me go faster
Pump it – Black Eyed Peas – Submitted by Julie Robson
I just love it. It’s a great tune to do speed work to.
Boys Of Summer – Don Henley – Submitted by Ralph Kidner
I don’t run to music but this is certainly a banging tune. It reminds me of driving down Highway 1 in California way back in 2010 – coincidentally the year I joined HPH!
Holding out for a hero – Bonnie Tyler – Submitted by Clare Evans
I remember a particular internal session that I was daunted by, I finally got it and did it and this song came on right at the end. I felt like a hero in that moment.
Are you ready – Disturbed – Submitted by Emily Tasker
I love the start of this song, it really pumps me up and mentally puts me in a good state to prepare to dig deep and put all my effort into my run.
The Touch – Stan Bush – Submitted anonymously
It keeps you going when running gets tough.
4’ 33” – John Cage – Submitted by Sam Dooley
This is everything that I enjoy listening to when running.
Edge of Seventeen – Stevie Nicks – Submitted by Naomi
Just an absolute banger. I don’t listen to music when running these days, but it was on my playlist for the first Abbey Dash I ever did & will always remind me of that.
Beloved – Jesse Cook – Submitted by Anne Akers
It’s a great warm-up, starting slowly and building up to (for me) a reasonable pace!
Never Miss A Beat -Kaiser Chiefs – Submitted by Matt Barton
170 beats per minute, great song, high Tempo and great lyrics aiming for consistency. Nick will like the royalties too….
He’s a pirate (Pirates of the Caribbean main theme) – Klaus Badelt– Submitted by Amaia LB
What’s better than feeling like jack sparrow running along?
Don’t stop me now – Queen– Submitted by Liz Jones
When I did my first half marathon (Sheffield) with my Old Skool iPod shuffle (then at the cutting edge of technology) this song was playing as I entered the arena and crossed the finish line. Since then, it’s been on every running playlist I’ve ever compiled, and on every race, I switch to it as I start what in laughingly call my sprint finish
Dance commander – Electric six– Submitted by Mike Gallagher
Brilliant tune, got me through marathon training and pure comedy.
Running/Planning – CMAT– Submitted by Sam Townson
I am a Planning Officer and I run. Need I say anymore?
Victory Lap – Fred Again, Skepta, PlaqueBoyMax- Submitted by Edward Hale
This was a regular song on my running playlist for my Berlin marathon training block. Especially great single to listen to while ripping out intervals on the track.
Missing – Todd Terry remix – Everything But The Girl– Submitted by Alison Hargreaves
My running playlist consists entirely of 90s dance classics – of which this is the best. I especially like running to stuff where the beat drops in and out, and I can relive my teenage dancefloor years (can be found throwing my hands up in the air whilst doing intervals round West Park).
Barwick Green (The Archers Theme) – Sidney Torch– Submitted by Helen Noyes
I always listen to The Archers when I go for along run….the storylines and plots are a good match for my running pace…slow burners….
Bleed American – Jimmy Eat World– Submitted by Toby A
Salt, sweat, sugar on the asphalt… Plus the tempo is perfect.
Applause – Lady Gaga– Submitted by Hannah Long
Gets you out of a hole when you don’t think you’ve got anything left in the tank.
Run Run Run – The Libertines– Submitted by Jack Holland
Combination of running and indie / Camden nostalgia – would be my karaoke song if I had a karaoke personality and any body else had ever heard it…
It’s not too late to get involved! You can still submit your running song here (one per runner please!).
