This week there were 55 HPH women and 63 HPH men out parkrunning across 44 venues worldwide.
Sixteen Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Three of these were new to the HPH list. These were Heijo kyuseki Rekishi koen in Japan by Vikki Hawkins; Victoria Embankment by George Sullivan; and Airlie Beach in Australia by Rosalie Dang.
Heijo Kyuseki Rekishi Koen parkrun is located in the historical Heijo Palace site in Nara, Osaka. Heijō Palace was the imperial residence in the Japanese capital city Heijō-kyō (today’s Nara), during most of the Nara period from 710 to 794 AD. The excavated remains of the palace and the surrounding area were established as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998. The parkrun course is four and a half laps counterclockwise around the site.
The Victoria Embankment parkrun is two and a half tarmac laps on the picturesque Victoria Embankment alongside the River Trent in Nottingham. The bandstand on the Victoria Embankment is a Grade-II listed building, and is used to host brass bands during the summer. Queen Victoria’s statue arrived in the memorial gardens at Victoria Embankment in 1953 after standing in the city centre’s Old Market Square since it’s unveiling in 1905.
Airlie Beach is a vibrant coastal hub and primary gateway to the Whitsunday Islands and Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia. Known for its tropical, laid-back atmosphere, bustling nightlife, and artificial swimming lagoon, it is a popular base for sailing, snorkeling, and visiting Whitehaven Beach. The parkrun course is one short 340m lap of the top marina path, followed by two laps of a 2.33 km course taking in the Coral Sea Marina, Shingley Beach and the iconic Cannonvale boardwalk with stunning views of Pioneer Bay.
There were no first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. However, Clare Slorach was 2nd finisher at Rothwell in 20:48. There were twelve PBs. These were by Steve Worthington with 21:20 and Megan Foster with 22:29 at Woodhouse Moor; Edward Hale with 20:09 and Poppy Forwood with 37:39 at Bramley; Jamie Westgate with 19:18 and Paul Robinson with 19:55 at Armley; Sarah Jewers with 29:23 and Joe Lawley with 29:24 at Vogrie; Laura Carman with 30:44 at Rothwell; Jack Gordon with 24:23 at Chevin Forest; Frazer Carr with 17:29 at Bushy; and Nick Shakhlevich with 18:44 at Conyngham Hall.
There were no new members of the official parkrun clubs.
Top female Age Grade% was 72.76% by Clare Slorach at Rothwell and top male Age Grade% was 78.92% by Gordon Crawford at Cross Flatts.
