There was an additional parkrun day in Scandinavia this week and three Hyde Park Harriers took advantage to do an extra run on Ascension Day – 14th May. These were Liz and Chris Jones at Billdalsparken in Sweden and Manesha Chauhan at Damhusengen in Denmark. Neither course was new to the HPH list.

On the usual parkrunday there were 51 HPH women and 70 HPH men out parkrunning across 47 venues worldwide.

Twenty-five Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Two of these were new to the HPH list. These were Skatås in Sweden by Liz and Chris Jones and Drumlanrig Castle by Anna Stocks.

Skatås parkrun takes place at Skatås motionscentrum, which is a popular recreational centre located in Gothenburg, designed for fitness enthusiasts and nature lovers. As well as exercise and hiking trails, the motionscentrum also has a gym, a frisbee golf course and a sauna. The parkrun course is a single lap on gravel, partly around the Härlanda Tjärn lake. The last two kms are a little hilly.

Drumlanrig Castle is situated on the Queensberry Estate in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The castle is the Dumfriesshire home of the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry. The castle has 120 rooms, 17 turrets and four towers. The castle itself is only open to the public on a few days during the year. However, the surroundings with an adventure playground and walking, hiking, and cycling routes are open all year long. The parkrun course is one lap with an out and back section at the end. It has an elevation gain of approximately 187 feet, but with a spectacular last push along the main drive, finishing in front of the castle.

There were three first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were George Anderson in 17:50 at Kirkharle Courtyard; Lucy McKerrell in 21:40 at Bramley; and Jonathon Spain in 18:50 at Foro Italico in Palermo, Italy. There were seven PBs. These were by Laura Carman with 30:33 at Rothwell; Sam Townson with 18:13 and Lara Chapman with 28:58 at Woodhouse Moor; Paul Farmery with 36:36 at Roberts Park; Richard Garratt with 23:34 at Keswick; Thomas Moulding with 17:40 at Ancholme Valley Way; and Aisling Davis with 22:46 at Finsbury.

Manesha Chauhan joined the parkrun 250 club with her run at Damhusengen in Denmark on Ascension Day. Also of note Paul Ramsden reached 300 parkruns with his run at Keswick.

Top female Age Grade% was 73.12% by Amy Ramsden-Young at Keswick and top male Age Grade% was 75.88% by Gordon Crawford at Woodhouse Moor.
