There were 55 HPH women and 71 HPH men out parkrunning across 53 venues worldwide this week.
Twenty-six Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Two of these were new to the HPH list. These were Lady Mary’s Walk in Crieff by Emma Amor and the inaugural at Queensway Park, Wellingborough by Frazer Carr.
Lady Mary’s Walk provides a peaceful stroll beside the picturesque River Earn on the western outskirts of Crieff. It goes along an avenue of mature oak, beech, lime and sweet chestnut. The trees, some of which are over 150 years old, provide a stunning canopy any time of the year. A favourite of Lady Mary Murray, the path was opened to the people of Crieff in 1825. The entire route is dotted with seats and viewpoints for taking a minute to rest and take it all in. The parkrun course is a flat, double out and back along the Walk using well made gravel and trail paths.
Queensway is a suburb of Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. Queensway was significantly expanded in the 1960s–70s to re-house overspill population from London. For a significant period Queensway has been known for gang related crime and violence. Queensway Park has a football pitch, children’s play area and a multi-use games area. A recent addition is a new outdoor activity rig. The equipment is used for callisthenics exercises, which focus on bodyweight exercises such as pull-ups, dips and squats, helping to build strength, balance and mobility without the need for isolated resistance machines. It is hoped that the project will help the community get stronger, healthier, happier and come together through callisthenics training. The parkrun course is flat and is run on a mixture of grass and permanent paths.
There were four first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Sam Townson in a PB time of 17:11 and Honor Baldry in 21:16 at Woodhouse Moor; Rebecca Gray in a PB time of 21:40 at Rothwell; and Thomas Moulding in 18:11 at Peter Pan.. There were three other PBs. These were by Sohebuzzaman Khan with 29:50 at Potternewton; Harry Webster with 24:17 at Chevin Forest; and Daniel Laycock with 27:39 at Chadderton Hall.
Alison Hargreaves and David Grealy joined the parkrun 250 club with their runs at Woodhouse Moor and Knocknacarra respectively. Kay Jefferies joined the parkrun 500 club with her 400th run at Woodhouse Moor.
Top female Age Grade% was 71.94% by Honor Baldry and top male Age Grade% was 75.07% by Sam Townson – both at Woodhouse Moor.
