parkrunday 13th June 2026

There were 51 HPH women and 66 HPH men out parkrunning across 54 venues worldwide this week.

Twenty-six Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Two of these were new to the HPH list. These were Jezioro Zatorze, Konin in Poland by John Blatherwick and Sittingbourne by Greg Judges.

The Jezioro Zatorze parkrun course is two fairly flat laps on concrete paths around Lake Zatorze in the city of Konin in central Poland. The interest of non-Poles in Konin is piqued by the traces of and monuments to the many national minorities who have lived over the centuries in Konin and Konin County: Jews, Scots, Germans, Frenchmen, Russians, Romanis, Czechs, Swiss, Dutch Olędrzy, Vietnamese, Chinese, Romanians, and Africans. Notably, Konin was one of the towns along the Scottish Trail – the route through urban areas of Greater Poland and Lower Silesia that connected the various Scottish trading communities that settled in Poland from the 15th century onward. Konin was also the birthplace of Julius Fromm – a Polish-German chemist and entrepreneur who invented the seamless rubber condom.

The Sittingbourne parkrun course is on a mixture of gravel paths, trail paths and grass within Milton Creek Country Park. Set in 128 acres, Milton Creek Country Park has a community events space and natural play area as well as an extensive network of paths. Prior to 1973 the area had become a landfill site. After the site closed remedial work was carried out to create a green space which met the needs of a predominantly urban population within a countryside setting rich in biodiversity. The aim of the project was to provide a ‘green heart’ for Sittingbourne. Groundwork started in 2001. The project took place over eight phases, including dealing with the contamination and landfill gases, wildlife conservation works, planting of trees, scrubs, pond-side and meadow plants, construction of paths, picnic/play areas, etc. Creating the park cost £2.25 million. The official opening of the country park was on 4 June 2012. The Park now has a variety of habitats which allows for a wide range of both fauna and flora to be found across the park. The woodland area is still maturing as the trees are relatively young. It has developed through tree planting of native species and by natural scrub regeneration. The scrub areas are particularly important for the nightingale which is a protected red list species. Milton Creek is site of regional significance for bumblebees due to it supporting five of the six rarest bumblebee species. The grassland areas are managed to provide both shelter and foraging habitats for the these bees. UK’s rarest bumblebees the shrill carder bee (Bombus sylvarum), and Kent’s rarest bumblebee, the red-shanked carder bee (Bombus ruderarius) can both be found in the park.

There were five first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Honor Baldry in 21:15 at Woodhouse Moor; John Blatherwick in 22:37 at Jezioro Zatorze, Konin in Poland; Amy Ramsden-Young in 20:33 at Vermuyden Way; Samantha Tecwyn in a PB time of 20:26 at Abingdon; and Reuben Keating in 18:34 at Barnsley. There were six other PBs. These were by Eleanor Williams with 25:50 at Cross Flatts; Lara hapman with 31:15 at Potternewton; Dominique Harris with 41:28 at Roberts Park; and Nichola Moreland with 23:05 at Penistone.

Alison Hargreaves joined the parkrun 100 club with her run at Woodhouse Moor.

Top female Age Grade% was 73.88% by Clare Slorach at Norwich and top male Age Grade% was 70.63% by Tobias Adkins at Woodhouse Moor.
