There were 40 HPH women and 65 HPH men out parkrunning across 46 venues worldwide this week.

Nineteen Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Two of these were new to the HPH list. These were Okanagan in Canada by Liz and Chris Jones and Cruickshank Park in Australia by Louise Gardham.

The Okanagan parkrun course is a double out-and-back route utilizing the Okanagan Rail Trail in the city of Kelowna in British Columbia. The course starts and finishes at the Parkinson Recreation Park and is a fully paved, 3m wide path, plowed during the winter months. The Parkinson Recreation Park is a multi-use space featuring grass fields, twelve pickleball courts, the Apple Bowl Stadium and walking and biking trails along Mill Creek. The Okanagan Rail Trail was created by converting a decommissioned railway track into a multi-use pathway. It opened in September 2018. The name Kelowna derives from an Okanagan word referring to a grizzly bear. Between 2012 and 2016, Kelowna led the country in cannabis, cocaine, and heroin possession. Kelowna produces wines that have received international recognition. Vineyards are common around and south of the city where the climate is ideal for the many wineries.

Cruickshank Park parkrun course is three laps on a range of surfaces including concrete, grass and compact gravel. The park is in Yarraville – an inner suburb of Melbourne. In 2020, Yarraville was named Australia’s best suburb and fifth in the world. Cruickshank Park is a busy linear park with multiple activity areas, as well as quiet spaces and connections to many local streets. The park features Mimi the Australian Muttaburrasaurus playground. Mimi is a giant, child-friendly sculpture of a Muttaburrasaurus It serves as a popular interactive playground feature where children can climb inside the dinosaur and slide down its tail. Yarraville is now described as a “gentrified, trendy and hip area”.

There were no first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. There were three PBs. These were by Sam Dooley with 26:10 at Beverley Westwood; Kevin Longmate with 22:45 at Middleton Woods and Rupert Jordan with 17:04 at Blyth Links.

Sohebuzzaman Khan joined the parkrun parkrun 25 club with his run at Woodhouse Moor.

Top female Age Grade% was 65.83% by Hilary Lund at Nostell and top male Age Grade% was 81.15% by Rupert Jordan at Blyth Links.
