parkrunday 8th August 2026

There were 60 HPH women and 69 HPH men out parkrunning across 50 venues worldwide this week.

Twenty-nine Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Four of these were new to the HPH list. These were Maldon Prom by Frazer Carr; Marine Parade on the beach at Weston-Super-Mare by Manesha Chauhan; Wzniesienie Osowy in Poland by Chris Carrick; and Vingis in Lithuania by Daisy Wales.

Promenade Park is the premier urban park in Maldon, Essex. The park is Victorian and was opened in 1895 to provide the people of Maldon with a green space. The park has an ornamental lake with fountains, an amphitheatre, a splash park, a children’s play area, a lake for model boating, and riverside walks. This area also includes dedicated picnic areas with picnic tables, formal gardens with a pergola, sports pitches and changing rooms, skateboarding and BMX areas, a petting zoo, and three separate toilet blocks including disabled facilities. As well as the weekly parkrun, Maldon Mud Race takes place in late April or early May each year and involves racing through 550m of mud. The parkrun course is two laps taking in Rossi’s Ice Cream Kiosk, the Zoo, the Mini-Golf, a Woodland path, the boating lake and an ornamental lake, as well as a stretch of the Promenade.

Marine Parade parkrun is two complete out-and-back laps entirely on sand on the beach at Weston-Super-Mare. The sand is usually quite compacted. Dogs are not allowed on the beach. The course passes The Grand Pier – one of Weston-Super-Mare’s attractions. A new attraction close by is Silica. This is a piece of public art; an advertising sign; a retail kiosk selling newspapers and hot food; as well as a bus shelter. It was criticised by local residents who liken it to a carrot or a space ship, although it is meant to symbolise man’s harmony with the sea.

Wzniesienie Osowy parkrun is two laps around Osowa Hill on paved forest paths. Despite the name, the route profile is not demanding – most of it runs on flat terrain with a small elevation before the finish line. It is located in the Tricity Landscape Park between the cities of Gdańsk, Gdynia, and Sopot on the shore of Gdańsk Bay. The park is a protected area in northern Poland. It was established in 1979 and covers an area of 77 square mile. Within the Tricity Landscape Park there are 10 nature reserves.

Vilnius is the capital of and largest city in Lithuania and the most-populous city in the Baltic states. The city’s estimated July 2026 population was 619,405. Vilnius is notable for the architecture of its Old Town, considered one of Europe’s largest and best-preserved old towns. The city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. Vingis Park is the largest park in Vilnius, covering 400 acres. The park is used as a venue for various events, especially concerts and sports competitions. It contains a stadium; an amphitheatre; and a department of the Botanical Garden of Vilnius University. The parkrun course is two laps on wide asphalt paths through the pine forest. In some places the course is a little hilly.

There were two first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Amy Ramsden-Young in 21:43 at Marshall Drive and Lucy McKerrell in 21:38 at Potternewton. There were nine PBs. These were by Tom Walker with 19:54 at Woodhouse Moor; Sohebuzzaman Khan with 28:47, Julie Robson with 31:27 and Sylvia McLellan with 31:32 at Armley; Nick Shakhlevich with 17:56 at Fountains Abbey; Simon McGrath with 20:22 at Phoenix David Hould with 30:11 at Lister Park; Joseph Wilson with 26:37 at Potternewton and Edward Hale with 20:27 at Oakwell Hall.

Lucy McKerrell joined the parkrun 50 club with her run at Potternewton.

Top female Age Grade% was 69.95% by Jane Prust at Woodhouse Moor and top male Age Grade% was 78.02% by Chris Jones at Woodlands.
