A Bridge too far Ultra Marathon

Saturday 11th May saw Phil Hammond become the first male to score points in the clubs all new Marathon/Ultra Championship.  He follows on from Laura and Nicola who scored in the first round last month.

This was marathon 213 for Phil and he ran with his back pack and mini me as part of his build up to the epic Run to Pegasus he is doing.

The Bridge Too Far Ultra takes you along the Six Dales Trail from Otley through the dales of Wharfedale, Washburndale, Nidderdale; passing by Swinsty, Fewston and Thruscross Reservoirs before heading over to Pateley Bridge and then all the way back to Pool-in-Wharfedale. This is an out and back route. Although the finish is an extra 5km (3 miles) from the start. As such you may elect to turn around sooner. There are 4 Checkpoints although you pass through the same ones on the way back! This race is especially challenging as you pass you car with 4 miles to go.

Phil’s comments – “On a wet and hailing day I ran another great ultra organised by the “Punk Panther” team”

He had planned to run the 39 mile option until they reached Greenhow Hill and it started hail-stoning that and the rain put him off.  Also the fact he is doing the Leeds half the next day he didn’t really need to put in an extra 7 miles training.

He completed the 50KM in 8 hours 23 minutes and 7 seconds.

Next up in this championship is the Urban Legend Ultra in June.
