Abbey Dash 2016
What another cracking event for the Hyde Park Harriers. The Abbey Dash is always very popular even if no one really likes running along Kirkstall Road, but it has PB written all over it.
59 Harriers took part (27 men and 32 ladies) on a chilly morning for round 9 of the club road championship and there was many happy runners at the end with shiny new PB’s.
The battle for first Harrier home was a cracker with Alec Francis leading in the early stages but he was piped at the post as Michael Vargas came on strong at the end and coming home in 34.59 just 8 seconds ahead. Both men claiming new PB’s and top points in the club 2nd division.
3rd Harrier home and again a PB was Ben Hartley scoring top points in the Premier division and Scott Watson wasn’t to far behind in his PB time of 35.57 and top 1st division points.
So many other men claimed PB’s and the ones I know to are Daniel Marquina, Jimmy Sheldon, Chris Smith, John Hayes, Andrew Maddock, myself and Nigel D’Mello. They maybe more and if your not on this list let the club know.
As for the ladies Amy Young stormed home 1st Harrier in 43.59 and claimed top 2nd division points.
Harriet Shaw came in 2nd just 3 seconds ahead of Claire Geeson who took the top points in the premier division.
Caroline Sanders was first home in the club 1st division with a new PB and yet again there was a long list of PB’s for the ladies. The ones I know are Denise Hofman, Claire Hougham, Hilary Lund, Hazal Walker and Sara Scholes.
This event shows how great our run club is, I could have run through more of the times but I wanted to highlight the other side and the stories people have shared about fellow runners and the great support from the sidelines.
*Thanks to all the shout outs today, I didn’t have the run I expected too but all your shouts made it much more enjoyable. What a great club we are.
*Amazed at the amount of shout outs we were getting be it from people watching or fellow runners when we were on opposite sides of the road. We always found an extra gear when this happened so thank you all.
*Thank you for the support at the Abbey Dash in a nithering and parky weather. I heard people calling name but my glasses were all fogged and couldn’t see who and say thank you.
*Thanks team HPH, I haven’t smiled like this on a run in years.
*Great cheering on a day when it was better to be running then standing around.
*Thank you so much for the great support, I needed it. It spurred me on to a faster time than I was aiming for, which itself was an ambitious PB. So thank you very much.
*I was totally blown away by the support from other club members. Everyone, even people I didn’t know high fived me on route, it was awesome. We seemed to be the most vocal and supportive.
*You guys were amazing.
*Thank you for the support its good to hear and see you all.
*You were ace thanks.
*Fantastic support thanks.
*Great shouting, great support spurred me on.
*The best cheering crew in Leeds.
*You guys were amazing, you can’t beat an HPH cheer.
*So loud and proud, we appreciated it so much.
Thanks to Phil Hammond for the pics.
