Bluebell Trail 2016

The trails, footpaths, towpaths, roads and river around Halifax played host to the first round of the club Off Road Championship at the Bluebell Trail.

18 Harriers made the trip (8 men, 10 ladies) for the 10.3 mile route and I’m not sure any enjoyed the very tough Trooper Lane and there was a few a little worried about what to expect at the river crossing which is just before the finish.  Thankfully by the time we got there, a good crowd were cheering as we entered water around knee high.

1st home and claiming top points in the Men’s premier division was David Driver with a very impressive 4th overall.  Scott Watson was next home in 25th place and took top points in the 1st division, with Tom Pollard home in 43rd and 2nd 1st division runner.

Chris Taylor took 2nd place points in the premier division coming home 109th, then Jack Rose claimed maximum points in the 2nd division finishing 165th.  James Vickers, John Blatherwick and Richard Edwards also scored good early points.  Last years champion Chris Smith missed the 1st round but its best 7 scores from 10 rounds this year.

Reigning Ladies champion Rebecca Rogers started her defence with a maximum score and an excellent 79th overall.  She didn’t have it all her own way though as 2nd home was Monica Padilla, who up to mile 6 had been 2nd lady overall.  Unfortunately she was to have a nasty fall on a slippy downhill and popped her already bad knee.  She did well to carry on but it wasn’t the result she wanted.  3rd home was Robin Culshaw meaning the top 3 were all from the premier division.

4th Harrier lady home was a new member to our club Honor Baldry.  Her 1st outing in club colours brought her top points in the 2nd division.  Dote Stone brought home top points in the 1st division, then Sarah Farnell, Emma Amor, Michelle Hancocks, Hilary Lund and Samantha Scarlett all scored good championship points making the river crossing all worth while.
