Bradford City Runs 10k
Round 8 of the HPH Road Championship saw 17 Harriers (10 men, 7 ladies) take on the Bradford City Runs 10k.
New to the club this year, the event includes three races on one course. Based upon a 5K loop of Bradford city centre, the course takes in City Park, Bradford University, The Broadway and Little Germany. One lap gets you 5K, two gets you 10K and 4 (and an extra bit) gets you a haf marathon. There was a couple of hills on each lap and nice downhills as well.
At signing on the runners were greeted by a couple of Harriers helping out, thanks to Clare Mason and Diane Aykroyd.
The Kids race and the half marathon went off before the 5 and 10K which set off together. Special mention to Farhad Hamad who took part in the half and came home in 1.36.28 and friend of the club Alan Lumb in 1.38.32.
The 10k was to prove very successful for a lot of our runners, many were happy with there time, a few PB’s and a nice T-shirt and medal.
The mens race turned into a HPH 1 and 2 with Philip Goose coming home in 37.15 and Jimmy Sheldon in 38.23 an excellent outing for both and there awards were presented by the mayor. Both taking maximum points in there division of the road championship (premier and 2nd division).
Next Harrier home in 17th and winning his age category was Chris Jones in 42.17. Chris also picked up 2nd place points in the premier division.
Graeme Miles (42.52) and Jake Rose (45.12) both scored strongly in the 2nd division before the top points in the 1st division were claimed by John Blatherwick who came home in 46.31.
John Hayes was next in 46.51 not too far ahead of first Harrier lady home and taking the 1st division honours Lucy Rider.
Roberta Jordan was next home in her first club outing. She had been aiming for just under 50 minutes and managed an excellent 47.40 and top 2nd division points. Curtis Parker-Milnes also scored his first club points with a time of 47.56 followed home by Richard Edwards (50.41) and Andrew Maddock (52.00).
Sarah Farnell put a late entry in when she realised she was doing well in the championship and it paid off with maximum Premier division points and a time of 53.02. Her closest rival Clare Maxwell was next in 54.45.
Emma Amor (56.04) and Sara Scholes (1.06.17) both picked up runner up points in the 1st and 2nd division and it was great to see TeeJay Jones making a welcome return and a time of 1.14.36.
All this means the championship looks like this heading into round 9 of 10 at the always popular and fast Abbey Dash.
