Brownlee 5k – April

23 Hyde Park Harriers posted a time for the first round of the Club road championship at the Brownlee 5k.  There are 7 more chances to score with rounds in May through to November.  We count your best time for the final points.

Fastest Harrier home and the target for all 2nd division runners was Tobias Adkins in a time of 18.57.  “Tough running on extremely heavy legs tonight but it was great racing in the sunlight for the first time in ages.  Also the usual brilliant support – cheers everyone, and really well done to everyone who ran, particularly those who got a PB”.

Next home and setting the bench mark for division 1 was Mark Haddrill with a time of 19.41 but it could have been so much better “An agonising 3 seconds away from a PB, still incentive to enter the next one and smash it”.

3rd Harrier and leading the premier division times was Paul Sawyer in 19.56.  Paul was keen to make sure Phil Goose knew that he was leading the championship so far…..Fighting talk.

In the ladies the 1st two home were tied on 21.09 and both scoring in the 1st division.  Amy Young paced Nichola Moreland to a time of 21.09, “A 5km PB of 21.09 for me, thanks to great pacing from Amy Young who found it difficult to not talk to me for 21 mins” said Nichola.

2nd division fastest time was set by Sarah Greene in a time of 22.21 “unexpected PB after being ill recently” said Sarah.  “Finally got sub 23 after 23.01 and 23.03 the last 2 times, and managed a PB of 22.21.  Previous 5km PB of 22.38 has stood for over 2 years so happy”.

Fastest in the premier division was Jo Rhodes who knocked another 40 seconds off her PB with a time of 22.47.

Other comments –

JB – “Exactly same time as last time”.

CE – “Backed down to B race.  No PB but was quicker than I had thought and no calf pain so that’s worth celebrating”.

CB – “Minutes away from a PB for me (I don’t think I’ll ever reach those dizzy heights of sub 23 again) but my fastest run in a while so pretty pleased really”.

LH – “24.32 tonight which is 1.08 quicker than my previous PB from a John Carr last year.  Really happy to break the 25 minute barrier, that was a New Years resolution of mine”.

CH – “A 33 second PB”.

RE – “Poor run but my times are nearly there.  Went off to fast and blew up in the last mile.  Will get sub 24 at some point this year at one of these races”.

GCR – “No PB for me but my second sub 30 so can’t complain. Support was incredible as usual”.

EB – “30’s B for me with 21.40, I should definitely be in the A race now”.

Race organiser Mark Hetherington has the following to say “Great to see so many HPH boys and girls out racing tonight.  We’re not going to let Chris Jones run in the B race again, whatever excuse he comes up with”.

Oh and finally.  The support on the bridge was excellent as always, but maybe think twice about who you leave your belongings with.  John Blatherwick left his phone with Adam –
