Eccup 10

The always popular Eccup 10 mile race saw the club Road championship reach its half way point.  This year for the clubs 10th birthday year we moved to 10 rounds with the best 7 counting.  So plenty still to play for.

38 Harriers made it to the start all though not all made the photo again as 5 mins before the race seems to be a popular time for a lot to vanish….!!

The first Harrier home was Philip Goose in an excellent 8th place.  He had hoped to go sub 1 hour here and came mighty close with 1 hour 5 seconds and claimed maximum points in the mens premier division.

Scott Watson was 2nd home and took the 1st division honours with 22nd place and a time of 1.03.21.  Chris Smith and Simon Gilbody scored well in the Premier division coming home 36th and 40th before Jimmy Sheldon came 54th and top scorer in the 2nd division.

There was 17 men scoring points but the ladies had more out with 21 starting and Rebecca Rogers was 1st home in 181st place in a time of 1.15.21, claiming top points in the premier division.

Lucy Rider took top points in the 1st division and was next lady home just ahead of Hannah Marshall and then Lois Gardner who took top points in the 2nd division.

So after 5 rounds we have had a very pleasing 76 members scoring points.  39 ladies and 37 men.

In the ladies Premier division its Sarah Farnell leading but only 1 point ahead of Clare Maxwell.  Rebecca Rogers is 3rd after 2 maximum scores from her 2 rounds so far.  Laura Cummings is 4th after a 1st and a 2nd while Diane Aykroyd and Ruth Hancox have also won rounds.  12 out of 20 ladies have scored so far.

In the 1st division Lucy has 3 wins and a 2nd which gives her a 12 point lead of the very consistent Emma Amor who has 4 solid finishes.  Clare Evans and Helen Close have each won a round.  11 out of 20 ladies have scored points.

Lois has a healthy lead in the 2nd division after winning the last 2 rounds and 2 second places   Heather Fulton is next up and won the 1st round.  Nicola Shenton and Maika Ohno have also had wins with 16 ladies scoring in the division.

For the men Chris Smith has had a good start in the premier division with 1 win and 4 second places.  Richard Edwards is 2nd after scoring at all 5 rounds.  Philip Goose has entered 3 rounds and took maximum points at all 3 so will be one to watch.  11 out of 20 men have scored so far.

Scott Watson has the lead in the 1st division after winning the last 2 rounds, but Liam O’Brien won the 1st 3 but hasn’t been at the next 2.  13 out of 20 have scored.

Aron Hinds leads the 2nd division after 1 win and 3 second’s and a 3rd so far.  Jimmy Sheldon has won the last 2 rounds and is 2nd.  George Anderson and Pompeo Costantino have also won rounds and 13 men have scored in this division.

Next up for the road championship is the West Yorkshire 5 which is new to the club this year on the 14th August. Entries are open on the Racebest website and we have 12 members entered so far.  Then in September its something a little different with the Golden Mile on the track, again entries are now open on Racebest.
