Guiseley Gallop 2018

What better way to spend Easter morning than taking part in the 23rd Guiseley Gallop, which also kicked started the Hyde Park Harriers Off Road and Club Competitor championships.

20 Harriers took part (12 men, 8 ladies) and they were in for a mud bath.  Was great to see some new faces taking on the club championships for the first time, and there was a few brave people in the wrong footwear but to be honest in the mud and water I’m not sure there was a right one.  If you weren’t running through mud you were running through lakes…or at least that’s how it felt.

First Harrier back and 7th overall was Tom Thomas in a time of 40.13.  He summed it up well “My favourite trail race I’ve done and probably the best one in Leeds too”.   Tom claimed top points in the men’s 2nd division.

Next home and claiming top points in the premier division was Jack Rose in 14th and a time of 42.37.

Bringing home top points in the men’s 1st division was Ralph Kidner who had the following to say “I’ve not had to work that hard in a while and my legs are definitely feeling it now, but I did enjoy it.  I hope the washing machine can cope now”.

1st Harrier lady home and claiming top points in the 1st division was Nichola Moreland in a time of 51.30 “Loved it!! Ridiculously muddy but really enjoyed it”.

Next home and taking top points in the premier division was Rebecca Gray in a time of 53.21, and had the following comments “Loved it, special mention to mum.  It was her first run as HPH and first ever trail run for a women who hates mud and was wearing road shoes.  Thought I was going to be in bad books  for weeks but she loved it”, so well done Carol Rogers.

3rd Harrier lady and top points in the 2nd division went to Sarah Greene who “Bloody loved it”.

Other comments on the race –

PD – “That was just the right amount of ridiculousness”

RE – “I pulled 1 runner out of the mud and rescued another runners shoe!”

CB – “Really enjoyed it, some real killer hills which I haven’t experienced in a long time”

MB – A very good trail race, was really muddy.  I think I was actually smiling a lot of the way round”

PT – Once I got used to the cold wet feet and slipping on every other step I think I enjoyed myself.  Really helped to have some harrier support as I dragged myself up the last hill.  Chocolate well earnt everyone”

Thanks Rolf for the pics.
