Guiseley Gallop
Easter Sunday saw the opening round of the club Off Road championship at the Guiseley Gallop 10k. Its a two lap course, quite technical through the trees with a little bit of the John Carr road in as well, plus a few hills including a tough one in the last mile which is thankfully only used once.
19 men and 13 ladies put in the Harriers vest and made the start line, this included last years ladies champion Rebecca Gray but unfortunately men’s champion James Vickers is out with an injury and is aiming to get back at the end of the season to avoid relegation.
Out the blocks fastest this year was Michael Vargas, fresh from breaking the club 5 mile record in Bridlington he claimed top points in the 1st division and 8th overall in a time of 38.54.
Next Harrier home and scoring top points in the 2nd division was a very strong Gary Grant in 65th and a time of 45.05.
Not far behind Gary with an excellent run and a perfect start to her title defence was Rebecca Gray in 72nd and a time of 45.21. This was even after a nasty fall which left her cut and bruised.
The next Harriers home were quite close together with first time out as a Harrier Pavels Sidlovskis leading this group home in 120th, then Jack Rose in 125th and Graeme miles in 126th just keeping ahead of Curtis Broadhead in 131st.
The leading Premier division runner was Daniel Waas in 163rd.
Back to the ladies and 2nd home and taking top points in the 2nd division was Naomi Kellet in 184th and a time of 51.48. 3rd home and taking the top points in the 1st division was Honor Baldry in a time of 55.05.
All in all some great running and really good to see lots of red and white out there. Next up in the Off Road series is the Bluebell Trail in May.
Thanks to Phil Bland for the excellent action pics.
