Harriers of the Month and Chair’s Blog – November 2024
Winter has arrived – it’s been a cold, dark month, but there’s still been a lot of HPH activity in November! Check out the Highlights section below for more info…
Firstly, huge congratulations to our Harriers of the Month for November 2024:
- Adam Lomas – A new 5K club record …by 17 seconds! Genuinely amazing stuff from Adam at the York 5K series to run 15:40!
- Caite Burke – Caite completed the Kendal Skyline Ultra – that’s 50K of serious undulation, in the midst of Storm Bert! Incredible stuff, well done Caite!
Well done to all our nominees, copied below:
- Abdu Ahmed – Abdu ran a brilliant race at the Guy Fawkes 10, especially given he’s having to forsake hills whilst in temporary Hull-based exile. Nice one mate!
- Clare Evans – Clare did all the hard work behind the scenes to arrange the club London Marathon ballot draw, including chasing up with the race organisers, collating the entries and checking in with everyone to ensure they wanted their place. Thank you Clare!
- Phil Hammond – Phil has run a lot of ultras. A LOT of ultras. He’s run so many, that this month he completed his 1,000th mile of Punk Panther races – very impressive!
- Rich Knighton, Dan Donnelly and Charlotte Eva – Our PECO captains have done a brilliant job getting so many Harriers signed up and buzzing for this year’s league – great work folks!
- Richard Tasker – Congratulations to Rich on completing his first half marathon at Bolton Abbey – not the easiest course, but he did brilliantly!
- Sarah Jewers – Sarah led a fantastic headtorch run in the Meanwood Valley – thank you Sarah!
THANK YOU!
A huge thank you to all our leaders this month – Amy R-Y, Ben H, Callum S, Cat M, Clare E, Daisy W, Dan D, Dan S, Ed S, Ellie W, Grace R, Honor B, Joe L, Jonathan S, Kevin L, Lorraine B, Michael G, Mike G, Richard G, Sam T, Sarah J and Sumrah S!
Thanks also to those who led the North Running Club runs from Springwell!
If you’d like to give leading a go, speak to any of our existing leaders or committee members and we’ll give you all the support and help you need.
HIGHLIGHTS OF NOVEMBER 2024
- The Guy Fawkes 10 Mile is one of the most atmospheric races in our calendar, and one of the toughest – the race organisers name their hills! Well done to the many HPH who took it on, some fantastic results!
- Naomi M and Becki G had a trip to Calderdale for the Soyland Moor Fell Race – Autumn is full of brutally hilly races. Nice one both!
- Adam and Will headed to York for the November edition of the 5K series, with Adam smashing the club’s 5K record by 17 seconds!
- Great to see Sarah J returning to running after injury with a cracking performance at the Holly Hustle!
- A dozen Harriers enjoyed the beautifully scenic Run Bolton Abbey races, with half marathons, 10 miles and 10Ks all on the agenda. Congratulations to all on some great racing!
- A dozen more Harriers enjoyed a shadowy sojourn through Meanwood and Scotland Wood for November’s headtorch run, followed by pizza and beers at Meanwood Tavern! Big thanks to Sarah J for leading us round a great route!
- 89 Harriers took part in the first PECO race of the new season at Temple Newsam – everyone ran brilliantly, but much more importantly we supported everyone over the line, whether they were HPH or not. Here’s to the next four PECO events!
- Caite B completed the Kendal Skyline Ultra 50K race in the midst of Storm Bert – an incredible effort!
- Phil H is well known for his ultra efforts – this month he completed his 1,000th mile of Punk Panther racing! Well done Phil!
As ever, if I’ve missed any achievements or activities, please accept my apologies. Fantastic efforts as ever everyone – ain’t no barriers!
