HPH Autumn (and Beyond!): A Preview

As the days start to get shorter, I thought it would be a good time to share some thoughts and plans for club activities for the rest of the year and into 2026! This is also partly by way of apology for spamming you with event invitations if we happen to be friends on Facebook…

The list below isn’t 100% comprehensive and doesn’t capture races in our championships (full details can be found here) or PECO (announcements coming soon…).

If there’s anything else you’d like to see or would like to organise, drop an email to the committee via the hello@hydeparkharriers.co.uk!

THE SHORT TERM

Sunday Sessions

It’s been a little while since we’ve done them consistently, but Sunday sessions will be making a return! There will be a canal session on Sunday 31 August and then from 21 September onwards there’ll be a range of different sessions on Sunday mornings – canal long runs, intervals at West Park, hills sessions around Meanwood… Keep an eye out for a full blog on this in the next couple of weeks, and on Spond for the relevant event invitations!

Sunday 07 September – Vale of York Half Marathon

We provide volunteers for this race each year as part of our arrangements with RaceBest for the Summer Mile. We need lots of folks to help out – if you’re able to help, drop us an email or join and post in the FB event.

Sunday 07 September – Social at Terminus from 5pm

Whether you’ve run, volunteered or just fancy getting to know your clubmates better, all are welcome at a social to celebrate our achievements at the Vale of York and Leeds Country Way races. There’s an FB event, but feel free just to turn up.

Sunday 14 September – HPH Marathon Relay and Day in the Park

Come join us in Woodhouse Moor from 10am on Sunday 14 September and let’s see how quickly we can run a marathon together! We’ll do 54 laps of the HPH Summer Mile loop (one lap being a smidge under half a mile, so 54 gets us to 26.2!). No need to be member of the club, or to be any particular speed or ability – just turn up and have fun! We’ll play some rounders, have some other races and generally have a good time! Join the FB event here if you’re interested in being part of the relay!

Saturday 27 September – Kit Swap and Leaders’ Event

Got some running kit you’d like to see go to a good home? Interested in getting involved as a run leader? Or you just want a cuppa and a chat? Come down to Archive on Kirkstall Road from midday on Saturday 27 September (grab some coffee and brunch whilst you’re at it). Full details on the FB event here.

THE MEDIUM TERM

Date TBC – HPH Volunteering Takeover at Woodhouse Moor

Our local and most popular parkrun is always in need of volunteers – we’ll be doing a volunteering takeover October or November, which is also a great opportunity to promote the club to the wider running community. Full details to be shared once we have a confirmed date, but if you’d like to volunteer at WHM in the meantime, get in touch here.

Friday 24 October – HPH Tour of Light Night

Always a highlight of the Leeds calendar, come join us for a sojourn round the installations and events of Light Night! Full details to follow, but we’ll meet at the Edge and make our way round the city – suitable for all abilities and paces.

Sunday 26 October – Run to Saltaire

The now-traditional trip to Saltaire – make your way to the Salt Beer Factory (roughly a half-marathon distance from Leeds along the canal) for pizza and beer! You’re welcome to get there on foot, by bike, or any other means – co-ordinate with your fellow Harriers if you want company along the way! Full details to be confirmed soon.

Saturday 13 December – HPH Christmas Party at Water Lane Boathouse

Full details to follow; for now, get the date in your diary!

THE LONG TERM

HPH 20th Anniversary Celebrations

The club will be 20 years old in 2026! We’ve got loads of good ideas for ways to celebrate, including a year-long baton relay, 20th anniversary kit, a series of club history blogs and much more! We’re intending to set up an anniversary committee to take the lead in organising and promoting all the fun stuff – if you’d like to get involved, drop us an email!

04/05 July 2026 – Endure24 Leeds

In 2022, we had approximately 30 Harriers take part in the Leeds edition of Endure24 (either in teams or running solo). Let’s do it again in 2026! The event takes place on 04/05 July 2026 – get entering, and we’ll be starting to co-ordinate the “HPH village” in the next few months!

Weekend of 24/25 October 2026- Amsterdam Club Trip

HPH has a great history of overseas club trips, most recently to Lisbon in 2024! In 2026, we’ll be heading back to Amsterdam, which was the destination of the first such trip back in 2016! Full details to be shared soon, but please note that the marathon and half marathon races sell out very quickly, so you’ll need to be quick on the draw when the registration period opens!
