HPH Blog & HOTM for June

Another great month of racing: The Summer Mile, 268 miles along the Pennine Way, plenty of fell racing; Leeds 10km, a trip to Wales and a number of triathlons has meant for a pretty busy set of nominations this month. Well done to everyone who raced or volunteered this month.

Our winners this month were: The Summer Mile Committee & Peter Noren!

The Summer Mile Committee were nominated a few times as below:

  • A fantastic job organising the Summer Mile, well done everyone!
  • Yet another fantastic Summer Mile event seamlessly organised by a great group. This year, sold out due to incredible social media presence and with some brilliant sponsors and prizes. Thanks to you all for your really hard work – we’ve had some incredible feedback and people seemed to perform brilliantly on the night, too.

Pete was nominated due the the phenomenal June week of racing he had in two countries. He put in an absolutely storming performance in completing the Hamburg Half in 1 hour 22 minutes. A few days later he hot footed it over to Leeds to finish third in Heat 12 of HPH 1mile at a scintillating time of 4 minutes 53 seconds. Fantastic work, Pete!

Pete storming at the Summer Mile!

Well done to all our other nominees this month:

  • Ellie Redfern: Ellie, whilst on the bike leg at Sheffield Triathlon came to a very nasty accident involving a fellow competitor. She stopped to provide first response to a very nasty head injury whilst an ambulance was called and they were taken to hospital. Ellie sacrificed her race to help after a very promising swim leg. She still carried on with the remainder of her race to complete! I’ve nominated for Presidents Award but her contribution was extended outside the club to the general sporting community. Well done Ellie.
  • Sarah Underwood: For designing, ordering and distributing the new leisure-tees for the club! they look awesome, thanks Sarah!
  • Ed Shakespeare: For attending the ‘new to leading’ session, then, 2 weeks later, leading group 1 with resounding success!! Thanks Ed, great to see you back 🙂
  • Joe, Sarah, Sarah & Jed: For organising the fell club trip to Wales. A really different type trip to the usual, and really awesome. Thanks all of you for your hard work!
  • Adam Lomas:
    • For an incredible mile performance at the Summer Mile! Adam was really consistent, strong and pulled a brilliant finish out of the bag to pip George to the line. Amazing to watch!
For winning first team at the HPH Summer Mile with a crazy low combined mile time! Fantastic performances individually, but together even more impressive. Amazing work to you both, the hard training really does pay off.
    • He just keeps on improving! With a pb 33.01 in the Leeds 10k and a pb 4.45 at the Summer Mile, Adam has taken yet another step up in his performance to truly outstanding levels. Watch your back Ben Douglas!
  • Every single Summer Mile helper / volunteer: Wow, what a turn out of volunteers we had for the 2023 Summer Mile. Thanks to every single one of you who cheered, photographed, set up, took down, registered, marshalled, ticked boxes or arranged logistics (or much more) – we couldn’t have done it without you, and we never fail to get amazing feedback about our friendly and fun event. You’re all amazing and you make our club what it is. Thank you!
  • Julie Haddon: Julie has worked so hard on her running and totally surprised herself with how much she’s improved. She is absolutely running her best at 50 (nearly fifty-one) and such a great role model. Her achievements this year include a PB at Chester with a smashing time of 1.42.45, top 8% of all female runners. First V50 at Appley Bridge, a PB at the Leeds 10k and 4th in her age group, a PB for the summer mile and second consecutive silver medal, placing 2nd FV50. All this whilst juggling some demanding work commitments and always with a smile. I know I’m slightly biased, but she’s so worthy of club recognition.
  • Chloe Brooks: For completing the Spine race. 268miles is insane, even for someone used to these types of ultra. It’s mindblowing!

Well done to all our nominees this month, as always, a great set of achievements and fabulous feats for HPH. Don’t forget to get your nominations in regularly for any HPH members who have contributed to the club that month, in any shape or form!
