HPH Chair’s Blog and HOTM for April

April was a bumper month of achievements for HPH, not just races but also our annual awards do!

We had multiple PBs *and* a club record set at London Marathon, we also had a few Harriers at Manchester marathon congratulations to all who ran! Lots of folk are still working towards Leeds marathon and half marathon very soon – best of luck to you all!

At our awards do, we celebrated our wonderful club with awards for speedy people, people who consistently represented the club, and people who show up to support, even when they’re not running themselves. Congrats to all our winners and thanks to all our members who make the club the wonderful community it is. Coming up in May is our Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 9th May at 7pm – there will be no official session then! Instead, come and find out what your committee has been up to and join us for some drinks and pizza at the New Headingley Club.

Our winners for April’s Harrier of the Month are Chloe Brooks and Mike Gallagher!

Chloe is no stranger to ultra races but in April, Chloe took on the Thames Ring 250 (that’s 250 miles!) in 96 hours. Chloe described it as “the best and most awful thing I have ever done.” By half way Chloe’s feet were blistered and she was falling asleep on her feet but support from her friends, her running buddies and the race volunteers got her through. An absolutely amazing achievement Chloe – definitely the living embodiment of Ain’t No Barriers!

Mike was nominated for HOTM as he selflessly helped a fellow runner over the finish line at Manchester Marathon. Mike helped his fellow competitor as he said “the values that’s we share as a club and when wearing that vest are ones that we are all proud of, and we all would have done the same.” We couldn’t be prouder of you Mike – well done on your race and for your actions.

Our other nominees this month are:

  • Jonah Kennedy: A storming sub2:50 performance at Brighton marathon!
  • Ciaran Tracey: A ten minute PB, clocking in at 1:16, at Reading Half Marathon… Insane.
