HPH Chair’s Blog and HOTM for January

A long but big month for HPH to kick 2023 off to a big start. We saw a beer round, several parkruns, PBs galore in York at the Brass Monkey HM, fell team success for the men at Stanbury Splash, not to mention another brilliant PECO to keep our positions in the league. Amongst all that, we’ve also had club runs, hill sessions, long runs on Sundays and led 2 North bar running clubs. It’s safe to say 2023 will be cracking if January is anything to go by.

The busy month led to copious nominations, for both performance and contribution to the club. Read below for all the other nominations this month, but our winners are Ed Shakespeare and Karly Stringer! Well done to you both. Here’s the reasons…

Karly Stringer: ‘I was hosting a group earlier in the month, there was a new member who struggled with the pace and ended up having to drop out after a couple of miles. Karly was the backmarker and stayed with her throughout, and volunteered to take her back to the Edge. I really appreciated Karly giving up her own run to help take a new member back safely to the club and think she should be nominated for that.’

Happy Karly at Temple Newsam 10

Ed Shakespeare:

  • Despite being injured (boo), Ed has turned out at both TNT and Peco in wintry conditions to take race pictures and share afterwards. Thanks Ed
  • Ed has suffered a long layoff with injury and has been unable to run. Despite this Ed has been very supporting the club in various capacities including organising the upcoming PECO and been taking some great photos
Ed – we hope you get back running soon!

Our other nominees this month were:

  • Ken Fox: I think we sometimes might take him for granted but let’s not forget the fabulous work that Ken Fox does each week, collating the parkrun results for us and writing interesting and entertaining posts each time. Thanks Ken!
  • Brilliant new PB at Brass Monkey – all of them have worked so hard and it’s brilliant to see the training paying off!
    • Ally Fellows
    • Sam Townson
    • Nick Shakhlevich
    • Sarah Underwood
  • Coralie Bell: For an outstanding result at the Calverley Cutter! P2! Great to see the results of consistent training, well done!
  • Kevin Longmate: Kevin has been regularly leading the Thursday hill sessions and Sunday long runs consistently for months – supporting his fellow runners and working towards his across America in a year journey. Thanks for being a great part of HPH Kevin!
  • Grace, Kay, Lorraine & Curtis & Liz: For their awesome collaborative approach to finding a way to make Group 1 work for everyone and supporting it throughout January and beyond! A massive thank you to them all!
  • Xeni Perry: For coming straight back to HPH with gusto. Xeni’s had some time off, and has come back and straight in to leading Group 1 regularly and holding people to account to ensure she comes to sessions. Amazing work Xeni – great to see you back.
  • Eliza Taswell-Fryer: For a crazy speedy PECO at West Park!

A great number of nominations this month; thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate a fellow Harrier. Keep them coming in so we can celebrate you and your club mates! Any HPH of the Month nominations, as well as nominations for other successes for the Awards Do on the 14th April, can be submitted at any time of the month/year at this link.
