HPH parkrun Championships parkrunday 41

New Year’s Day is the one parkrunday in the year when we’re officially allowed to get a double dose of parkrun fun by running at two different parkrun venues. This is because on New Year’s Day the usual start time can be relaxed. So with a bit of coordination and cooperation between the organising teams of closely located parkrun venues it can become possible to run one parkrun and then travel to another one nearby with a later start time and run that as well. For Leeds a popular choice was to run at Woodhouse Moor with its usual 9am start and then head the 5 and a bit miles east to Temple Newsam with its 10:30am start. Most people drove but a few took up the challenge of running between the venues and all of them made it well in time. Respect.

In total 81 parkruns were completed by Hyde Park Harriers on New Year’s Day and 33 did a double run. Apart from the Woodhouse Moor / Temple Newsam combination Chris and Liz Jones ran Albert and Stewart parkruns in Middlesbrough; David Womersley ran Skipton and Pendle; Andrew Nicholls ran Ipswich and Kesgrave; and John Blatherwick ran Conkers and Long Eaton.

There were seven PBs. These were by David Womersley with 23:20 at Pendle; Ben Hartley with 20:25, Tom Williams with 21:14, Simon McGrath with 22:02, Caroline Sanders with 30:47 and Trevor Raddings with 37:24 at Temple Newsam; and Hannah Marshall with 25:00 at Woodhouse Moor.
