HPH parkrun Championships parkrunday 47

There were 66 Hyde Park Harriers out parkrunning across a record breaking 26 different venues this week. These included John Blatherwick who was the first Hyde Park Harrier to turn out at Gibside, Gateshead. Nicola Forwood continued her trip Down Under with Poppy and this week followed in the footsteps of Dan Waas and Stan Karanasios in running around Chelsea Bicentennial Park in Melbourne, Australia. Sue Smith had another run around Uvongo in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Jaz Bangerh was hobnobbing with 2012 Olympic Heptathlon champion Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill at Sheffield Hallam parkrun for the launch of the landmark partnership between parkrun and Health and Life insurer Vitality.

Claire Geeson was first female finisher at Hereford parkrun with a time of 23:22. There were three PBs this week. These were by Jimmy Sheldon with 19:08 at Wilmslow; Laura Edwards with 26:28 at Woodhouse Moor; and Gary Grant with 20:18 at Dungloe in Ireland.

With three weeks to go there are only 150 points up for grabs and we now know who the HPH parkrun Champions are going to be – subject to no major mistakes being found in the Python’s sums. The women’s champion is Hannah Marshall who is now 175 points clear of Clare Maxwell who is guaranteed second place being 328 points clear of Hilary Lund in third place. That final place on the podium isn’t certain yet as Diane Aykroyd, Bev Miller and Claire Hougham can still close the gap. The men’s champion is Chris Jones who is now 166 points ahead of John Hayes. John can theoretically be caught by Ben Hartley, but only needs 22 points from the last three races to ensure he gets second place.
