HPH parkrun Championships parkrunday 54

Hyde Park Harriers were spread far and wide on the final day of this season’s HPH parkrun Championships. There were 57 out parkrunning at 21 different venues. These included a quartet who were the first HPHs to run at their chosen parkruns, namely Emma Amor at Victoria in Glasgow; Bernadette Butler at Woodley, Reading; Chris Mann who was first finisher at Winchester; and Helen Williams at root44, parkrunning between the vines on the Audacia Wine Farm at Cape Town in South Africa (in the company of Coventry Godiva Harrier and former world 5K record holder David Moorcroft).

Hannah Marshall celebrated joining the parkrun 50 club with a PB of 23:39 at Cross Flatts. Three other PBs were recorded by Hyde Park Harriers. These were by Jason Newell with 25:21 and Richard Edwards with 26:27 at Oakwell Hall; and Tom Pollard with 18:35 at Stewart, Middlesbrough. Dan Waas joined the parkrun 100 club with his run at Woodhouse Moor.

In the battle for the final podium place still unresolved going into the final week of the Championships Diane Aykroyd gained the points required to secure third place ahead of Helen Williams.

Well done to all the Hyde Park Harriers who participated in the Championships this year. We had 79 women and 79 men who took part, doing a grand total of 2883 parkruns. There were some outstanding performances, most notably by David Womersley who didn’t miss a single parkrun all season including the Chrismas Day run and the extra run allowed on New Year’s Day. He also bagged seven of the top ten Age Grade% scores recorded. A most worthy men’s champion.
