Leader’s Blog Dec 2023 – Amy Ramsden-Young

Each month, we’ll be sharing the stories and insights of our group leaders. If you are interested in giving leading a go, talk to your group leader at club, or email hello@hydeparkharriers.co.uk we have tonnes of resources to help you, training sessions and support.

This week we’re chatting to Amy who, up until little Ada arrived, regularly leads groups 5, 6 and 7 on a Tuesday evening, and has more recently been leading group 0 of in Café Nero for our injured / resting / just want a chat on a Tuesday kind of runners.

Amy is also our club chairperson – if you ever wonder what our committee get up to, you can find all details here, if you want to get more involved in the club, just let us know by emailing hello@hydeparkharriers.co.uk

How did you get in to leading?

I actually led a Leeds girls can couch to 5km group then decided I’d help out leading with HPH. I think I the first time I volunteered at HPH was when another leader didn’t show up so I decided to take the group.

What do you love about leading?

That it makes me come to club sometimes when I would usually stay at home! I love meeting lots of new and different people, and I like showing people new routes.

Do you have any interesting or creative ways of leading?

Nothing special, but I do love trying out new places and connecting locations using cool and interesting paths.

What would your advice be to anyone thinking about starting to lead?

Just do it! If you can run on your own, you can lead a group run – it’s really simple. Also, when you think about how much our runners get from the club, it’s really nice for folks to give something back.

Thanks Amy for your thoughts on leading and for regularly volunteering to lead group sessions! Group 0 has been really well received recently (and is so easy to lead a group to a coffee shop if anyone else wants to lead this group!).
