Leeds Country Way 2015

This year’s Leeds Country Way relay race took place on Sunday 6th September with fantastic weather conditions for the day – clear skies and early September sunshine. We had a superb turnout for the club – 5 teams of 12 runners, 60 Hyde Park Harriers overall – with each team covering the 6 legs of the relay in pairs.

The course followed the 64 miles of the Leeds Country Way, starting and finishing at Garforth Leisure Centre, taking in parts of Leeds including Morley, Pudsey and Golden Acre Park. The aim is to get the baton around all legs from start to finish and for everyone to have a great run whilst doing so. Despite one or two falls and the odd wrong turn, all our runners completed their legs, and everyone really enjoyed the event.

We had some excellent times for each of the legs and two teams got the baton all the way round – The HPH Velocities and Magnus Canis. Out of the 47 teams participating, the HPH Velocities team, consisting of Scott Watson, Phil Goose, Ben Hartley, Kevin Ogden, James Booth, Tom Eales, Mike Gallagher, George Anderson, Stan Karanasios, Chris Smith, Matt Jackson and Matt Pinnock, finished in a very well-earned 5th place overall, with the other key results below:-

Position Team Overall Time
1st place Valley Striders A Team 6:55:46

5th place HPH Velocities 7:39:27
14th place Magnus Canis 8:38:21
32nd place Jan’s Harriers 10:06:15
39th place HPH Underdogs 11:18:56
45th place HPH Barbarians 12:32:07
Special mention must also go to Becky Rodgers and Dan Waas for winning a leg 1 prize – fastest mixed pair time for that leg, completing it in 1:30:55 – well done guys! Magnus Canis also came 3rd mixed team overall.

As previous years, a nicely crafted piece of pottery was given to all runners, this year being a blue mug perfect for a cuppa!
