The Milton Keynes Marathon weekend took place over the bank holiday in early May.  There was a superhero fun run, a relay, a half marathon and a marathon on the Monday, and on the Sunday there was a’Rocket’ 5k on the Sunday for extra bling and for a warm up before the longer runs.

The races all started together on the Monday at 10am but each wave was set off separately with a count down and an explosion of ticker tape.  People lined the streets for the 1st mile and through the streets of Milton Keynes, a great atmosphere.

At around 7 miles the marathon and half marathon split.  I ran the half so then headed back towards Milton Keynes along the river, and through fields.  A few roads but not many, and all were very quiet and scenic.  It wasn’t hilly (when compared the Leeds / Sheffield!) but can’t be described as flat, so it kept it interesting and it didn’t become monotonous.

The final part of the run was back towards the MK Dons stadium, and then a lap of the pitch to finish.  Half the length of the pitch to finish so a sprint finish was possible.  The finish was also up on the big screen so there was a few seconds of fame.  The supporters in the stadium made a great sound and lots of cheering as i finished the course.

T-shirt, a great medal, and a goody bag…a great day out (and did i mention a half marathon PB!)
