Monthly Blog and HOTM for November

November saw the start of the much anticipated PECO cross country season, with many new members joining our ranks, excited to don their red and white vests and get muddy in a bid to fend off the local competition. There was also the famed Guy Fawkes 10 mile race, Snake Lane 10 mile race, and our parkrun for the month was Chevin Forest: another opportunity to get muddy and score points in the parkrun league. Not forgetting the usual York and Leeds 5km races, there were multiple opportunities to get PBs this month. Well done to everyone who was out and about, particularly given that the weather wasn’t particularly delightful…

Without further ado, our winners for this month are: Nick Shackhelvich and Steve Milne.

Nick Shakhelvich was nominated as below: ‘Nick absolutely smashed his sub-3 marathon which was incredibly well deserved due to the immense and dedicated training he’s been doing for months. Congratulations Nick. Huge achievement 🥳’

Nick deservedly proud of his medal 🏅

Steve was nominated: ‘A phenomenal 5k PB just a couple of weeks after a brilliant 10k PB – Steve’s a lot of work into this progress and the results are showing it!’

Our other nominees this month were:

  • Curtis and Jonny: Great job organising the HPH contingent for Middleton PECO – well done chaps!
  • Amy Ramsden-Young – alongside all the pre and post pregnancy things going on Amy continues to guide, develop and grow our lovely run club. She will no doubt mention the collective efforts of all involved. Whilst they are never to be discounted; that direction, energy and enthusiasm will always have a genesis. This could be an “Ain’t no barriers” nomination as well as a “President’s Award” nomination but I’m nominating Amy as the positive impact of HPH is noticeable almost day to day on runners and the local running/coffee/beer community as a whole! Jo R: For coming back after pregnancy to complete the first Peco of the season, with a massive smile on her face.
  • Jaz: Jaz always runs with a smile on her face and recently has been running really strongly, setting some of her fastest parkrun times. She also supported new runner Kat round on her first Peco, great work Jaz
  • Tom Moulding: Tom has smashed out another PB with 56.32 in the Preston 10 mile, which is even more impressive given the ‘less then ideal’ conditions on the day. This is Tom’s 3rd PB in recent weeks to add to half marathon and 10k distances. Tom is just on fire at the minute!
  • Lee Taylor: Breaking sub-40 at Doncaster 10km. Lee has been close all year so this is a great achievement – great work Lee
  • Frazer Carr: A brilliant run at Valencia Marathon, resulting in a huge PB!
  • Rafet Ongun: For battling back from a horrible ACL injury and thinking he might never run .again to run the first Peco of the season
