There were 63 HPH women and 61 HPH men out parkrunning across 45 venues this week.
Twenty Hyde Park Harriers tried out a new course and amongst them a new course was added to the HPH list. This was Largs Prom on the Firth of Clyde in Scotland by Jane and Stephen Prust. Largs is a popular seaside resort with a pier. The town markets itself on its historic links with the Vikings and an annual festival is held each year in early September. Last year an episode of Great Coastal Railway Journeys aired with Michael Portillo dressed up as a Viking to evoke the spirit of the Battle of Largs in 1263 between the kingdoms of Norway and Scotland. The 2023 Viking Festival takes place between 2nd and 10th September, so if you’re in the area you have two opportunities to parkrun like a Viking.
There were three first finishing Hyde Park Harriers this week. At Bowling Park both male and female first finishers were Hyde Park Harriers – Nick Shakhlevich in 19:11 and Vicky Houghton in a PB time of 23:12. Maika Ohno was the other first finisher – in 27:58 at Maborikaigan yuhodo, Japan. There were seven other PBs. These were by Jonathan Spain with 18:55 and Muyang Zhang with 27:55 at Woodhouse Moor; Jordan Clifford with 22:02 at Bradford; Caroline Young with 23:42 at Oakwell Hall; Robert Butler with 24:09 at Selby; Tom Elcock with 25:27 at Frickley Colliery; and Joe Lawley with 22:17 at Bowling Park.
Adam Sumnall joined the parkrun 100 club with his run at Wetherby.
Top female Age Grade% was 73.08% by Jane Prust at Largs Prom and top male Age Grade% was 79.86% by Rupert Jordan at Armley.
