With snow and ice causing multiple parkrun cancellations across the North of England including all but Roundhay, Temple Newsam and Wetherby in Leeds, it’s no surprise that numbers were well down this week with just 29 HPH women and 26 HPH men out parkrunning across 23 venues. Ten Hyde Park Harriers tried out a new course and amongst them one new venue was added to the HPH list. This was Swakopmund in Namibia by Jane and Stephen Prust where there was no sign of any snow in the 15°C sunshine at the 8 o’clock start. This completed all three Namibian parkruns by the pair. The Swakopmund course is an out and back next to the sea that starts on the grass at the “yellow bus”. The yellow bus is a food truck with the name “Fork ‘n Nice” although the post run parkrun coffee is at Bojos Cafe. After travelling 8636 km from Leeds (1727 parkruns) to do a parkrun, it probably came as quite a surprise for Jane and Stephen to bump into Woodhouse Moor regular and Pudsey Pacer Al Chapman who was also doing his first parkrun there and adding the course to the Pudsey Pacers’ list. There were two first timers in Japan this week – Jack Rose at Sunshine Beach in Kyoto and Jonathan Carpenter at Odakaryokuchi in Nagoyo. Both were following in the footsteps of our very own Japanese resident Vikki Hawkins who is now a regular at Futakotamagawa parkrun in Tokyo having completed 53 there and 5 others in Japan in her grand total of 158.
There were no first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. There were four PBs. These were by Alice Young with 23:48 at Mile End; Romina Masood with 28:43 at Victoria; Chris Harris with 21:40 at Roberts Park; and Tami Bond with 29:08 at Heritage Harbor in Ottawa (no not the capital of Canada, this one is in Illinois, USA).
Anna Higgins and Jane Prust joined the parkrun 100 club with their runs at Roundhay and Swakopmund respectively. Alys Griffiths joined the parkrun 250 club with her run at Roundhay.
Top female Age Grade% was 69.77% by Jane Prust at Swakopmund and top male Age Grade% was 69.98% by Rob Riley at Gorleston.
