There were 53 HPH women and 57 HPH men out parkrunning across 44 venues this week.
Fifteen Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Of these, one new course was added to the HPH list. This was Oosterplas in the Netherlands by Frazer Carr. The Oosterplas is a lake in the Brabant capital ‘s-Hertogenbosch (Den Bosch). The lake was dug in the 1960s as a sand extraction site. The parkrun course is two laps around the lake on a mixture of asphalt and paving stones. The city’s official name is a contraction of the (archaic) Dutch des Hertogen bosch – ‘the forest of the duke’. The duke in question was Henry I, Duke of Brabant, whose family had owned a large estate at nearby Orthen for at least four centuries. Until 1520, the city flourished, becoming the second largest population centre in the territory of the present Netherlands, after Utrecht. It was the birthplace and home of one of the greatest painters of the northern Renaissance period, Hieronymus Bosch. At the end of the 19th century, the very conservative city government prevented industrial investment to avoid an increase in both the number of workers and the establishment of educational institutions: students were regarded as disorderly. As a result, the relative importance of the city diminished. Since then the city has become a centre of industry, education, administration and culture. The city has its own food speciality, the Bossche Bol — effectively a giant profiterole, somewhat larger than a tennis ball, which is filled with whipped cream and coated with chocolate.
There was one first finishing Hyde Park Harrier. This was Clare Slorach in 19:31 at Norwich.
There were eight PBs. These were by Gregor Lawson with 21:42 at Hampstead Heath; Conor Goold with 23:58 at Whitley Bay; Teejay Jones with 48:58 at Rothwell; Catherine McGuire with 31:59 at Oakwell Hall; Amy Latham with 33:27 at Clapham Common; Thomas Moulding with 17:34 and Jonathan Coade with 19:57 at Middleton Woods; and Dominic O’Key with 20:02 at Coldham’s Common.
There were no new members of the official parkrun clubs this week, but Rebecca Dawson reached 200 parkruns with her run at Wynyard Woodland.
Top female Age Grade% was 77.11% by Clare Slorach at Norwich and top male Age Grade% was 77.48% by Rupert Jordan at Town Moor.
