There were 58 HPH women and 56 HPH men out parkrunning across 51 venues worldwide this week.
Twenty-eight Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. Two of these courses were new to the HPH list. These were Marlborough Common by Grace Roberts and Penticton in Canada by Ellie Shipp.
The Marlborough Common course is two laps entirely on grass around the Common. Marlborough promotes possible connections with Merlin – the mythical figure prominently featured in the legend of King Arthur. The Marlborough name may derive from an original Anglo-Saxon place name of Merleberge, with a derivation from the personal name of Mærle (“Merlin”) combined with beorg (hill). The town’s motto is “Ubi nunc sapientis ossa Merlini” – “Where now are the bones of wise Merlin”. Legend has it that the Marlborough Mound is the burial site of Merlin.
The Penticton parkrun course is two out-and-back laps on permanent paths along the southern shoreline of Okanagan Lake in the city of Penticton in British Columbia. It starts and finishes at The Peach – an “Iconic Penticton Landmark”, which is a spherical refreshemnt outlet painted to resemble a peach.
There were two first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Cara Gates in 22:55 at Frickley Country and Euan Douglas in a PB time of 21:23 at Hermanus in South Africa. There were six other PBs. These were Christopher Kemp with 19:14 and Coralie Bell with 19:15 at Woodhouse Moor; Vicky Houghton with 26:20 at Halifax; Nathan Jeffs with 27:35 at Roundhay; Andrew Black with 18:50 at Potternewton; and Naomi Adkins with 28:19 at Maryport Prom.
Andrea Sendula joined the parkrun 25 club with her run at East Holmes Field. Teejay Jones joined the parkrun 100 club with her run at Woodlands. Also of note Reuben Keating reached 200 parkruns with his run at Potternewton.
Top female Age Grade% was 76.88% by Coralie Bell at Woodhouse Moor and top male Age Grade% was 77.49% by Frazer Carr at Southsea.
