It was “Run for Rolf” parkrunday to commemorate the life of Rolf Neugebauer. One hundred and one Hyde Park Harriers turned out at 23 venues around the parkrun world with sixty-seven at Woodhouse Moor where Rolf was a much loved member of the core team of volunteers that put the parkrun on each week. Everyone was asked to wear their brightest kit and volunteer tee-shirt if they had one and Woodhouse Moor was a multi-coloured sea of running, walking, jogging and volunteering.
Four new venues were added to the Hyde Park Harriers’ list. These were the University of Stirling by Jamie Dobson; Alexandra Park in Moss Side, Manchester by Helen Williams; Sarah Underwood; Tom Williams; Alys Griffiths; Tom Mason and Jaz Bangerh; Byxbee Park in Palo Alto, California by Tami Bond; and a Z for the parkrun alphabet hunters with Zamek w Malborku, Poland by Tom Elcock; Curtis Parker-Milnes; and Poppy & Nicola Forwood. There are some interesting parks there. Alexandra Park was opened in 1870 with the purpose of deterring the working men of Manchester from the alehouses during their day off. Byxbee Park is close to Googleplex the HQ of Google. The parkrun follows an out and back route with a turnaround point at the Pelican Viewing Area. The course in Malbork goes past the spectacular Malbork Castle, constructed by the Teutonic Knights and which is the largest castle in the world by area and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
There was one first finishing Hyde Park Harrier – Amy Young at Sale Water in a time of 20:22. There were five PBs. These were by Laura Hastings with 24:50; James Tarbit with 25:14 and Steve Milne with 26:46 at Woodhouse Moor; George Sullivan with 23:05 at Sherwood Pines and Vicky Houghton with 22:50 at Bakewell.
Ciara Crossan joined the parkrun 100 club and Hilary Lund joined the parkrun 250 club, both running at Woodhouse Moor.
Top Age Grade% by the ladies was 72.75% by Amy Young at Sale Water and for the men was 68.62% by Simon Rogers at Heaton.
