There were 55 HPH women and 54 HPH men out parkrunning across 34 venues worldwide this week.
Nine Hyde Park Harriers travelled to try out a new course. One of these courses was new to the HPH list. It was Nagaragawa koen in Gifu, Japan by Vikki Hawkins. It was Vikki’s 14th different parkrun course in Japan. The Nagaragawa koen parkrun course is a double out-and back course on a flat tarmac path on the north bank of the Nagara River in Gifu. Gifu has played an important role in Japan’s history because of its location in the middle of the country. Located on the alluvial plain of the Nagara River, Gifu has taken advantage of the surrounding natural resources to create both traditional industries and tourism opportunities such as cormorant fishing. Gifu is home to a nationally designated forest and Gifu Castle, situated just the other side of the river from the parkrun course. Gifu also hosts many festivals and events throughout the year. Whoa, what’s this! Gifu Park contains the Kinkazan Squirrel Village where visitors can play with and feed trained squirrels while learning about the four species inside the Squirrel Village. It is Japan’s first “Squirrel Village”. I bet it’s not as good as my garden aka “Headingley Squirrelworld” – Leeds’ premier squirrel based attraction. 🙂
There was one first finishing Hyde Park Harrier. This was Callum Smith in a PB time of 19:02 at Ruthin Memorial Playing Fields. There were four other PBs. These were by Harrison Grange with 27:56 at Wodhouse Moor; Alex Greenwood with 21:27 at Rothay Park; Dominic O’Key with 19:03 at Storeys Field; and Chris Worfolk with 25:47 at Marlay in Ireland.
Jack Clarke and Abigail Prudhoe joined the parkrun 25 club with their runs at Woodhouse Moor and York respectively. Dan Waas joined the parkrun 500 club with his run at Thonock Lane Farm.
Top female Age Grade% was 75.70% by Coralie Bell at Woodhouse Moor and top male Age Grade% was 77.53% by Chris Jones at Fountains Abbey.
