There were 52 HPH women and 56 HPH men out parkrunning across 41 venues this week. Twenty-seven Hyde Park Harriers tried out a new course and amongst them two new courses were added to the HPH list. These were Kiessee in Göttingen, Germany by Peter Noren and Grahamstown in South Africa by Dominic O’Key. Kiessee parkrun course is two laps around a quarry pond from an opencast gravel mine. The recreational area around the pond is used for walking, cycling, jogging, Nordic walking and fishing. In June 2021 a 1.4m long, 40kg catfish was found floating in the pond choking on a large red-eared turtle. Neither survived. Göttingen is famous for its renowned University. Three of the most famous mathematicians in history, Carl Friedrich Gauss, Bernhard Riemann and David Hilbert, were professors at Göttingen. Grahamstown parkrun is in the town formerly known as Grahamstown that was renamed in 2018 to Makhanda in memory of Xhosa warrior and prophet Makhanda ka Nxele as a symbolic reparation to address an unjust past. The parkrun name has yet to follow suit. The parkrun course is two laps of Makana Botanical Gardens adjacent to The University Currently Known As Rhodes campus.
There were three first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Caite Burke in 23:14 at Derry City; Amy Ramsden-Young in 21:35 at Graves; and Peter Noren in 17:48 at Kiessee. There were three PBs. These were by Sam Dooley with 24:24 at Bradford; Paul Ramsden with 25:05 at Graves; and Vicente Ponsoda with 28:49 at Bramley.
Nigel Wallis and Chris Harris joined the parkrun 50 club with their runs at Roundhay and Roberts Park respectively.
Top female Age Grade% was 74.56% by Anna Stocks at Lordship Recreation Ground and top male Age Grade% was 77.37% by Michael Vargas at Woodhouse Moor.
