There were 57 HPH women and 57 HPH men out parkrunning across 42 venues this week.
Twenty-six Hyde Park Harriers tried out a new course and amongst them two new courses were added to the HPH list. These were East Brighton by Andrew Nicholls and Mote Park in Maidstone by Dan Waas.
Opened in 1925 after Brighton Corporation bought the land, East Brighton Park is in East Brighton. It is nestled between Brighton Naturist Beach, Brighton Marina, Roedean School and the Municipal Dump. The caravan park to the north of the park was opened in 1938 and was the first municipal camping ground in England. In 1968, scenes in the film “Oh! What a Lovely War” were shot in the park, which was used to replicate the trenches of the Battle of the Somme. The park is also used by the South East Coast Ambulance Service to land helicopters when bringing emergency cases to the Royal Sussex Hospital. In 2016, Prince Andrew flew in by helicopter on his way to visit a local school.
Mote Park is a 440-acre public park in Maidstone, Kent. Previously a country estate it was converted to landscaped park land at the end of the 18th century before becoming a municipal park. It includes the former stately home Mote House together with a miniature railway and a boating lake. Within the park is a cricket ground which until 2005 was used annually by Kent County Cricket Club as one of their out-grounds. In 2013 the park was awarded a Green Flag Award. In a subsequent public vote open to those parks awarded green flags, Mote Park was named third most popular nationally from a field of 1,448 qualifying open spaces.
There was one first finishing Hyde Park Harriers this week. This was Tom Williams in 21:14 on his first time at Lake2Lake Trail in New Zealand. There were nine PBs. These were by Joe Lawley with 21:38 and Tariq Roberts 22:16 at Woodhouse Moor; Jordan Clifford with 21:32 at Bradford; Hannah Sutton with 27:54 at Roundhay; Alice Young with 24:59 at Fountains Abbey; Vicente Ponsoda with 20:57 at Armley; Jonathan Spain with 19:25 and Ralph Kidner with 26:09 at Potternewton; and Carol Rogers with 27:31 at Philips Park.
Daisy Wales joined the parkrun 25 club and Frazer Carr joined the parkrun 100 club with their runs at Woodhouse Moor and Alice Young joined the parkrun 50 club with her run at Fountains Abbey.
Top female Age Grade% was 68.93% by Jane Prust at Sandringham and top male Age Grade% was 75.37% by Chris Jones at Armley.
