There were 53 HPH Women and 36 HPH Men out parkrunning across 31 different venues this week. Sixteen Hyde Park Harriers tried out a new parkrun course and amongst these two new courses were added to the current HPH list. These were Talkin Tarn Country Park at Brampton, near Carlisle by Lucy Rider and Our Park in Orford, Tasmania by Tom Elcock continuing his tour of South East Australia. Talkin Tarn Country Park lies nine miles east of Carlisle and two miles south of Brampton. Talkin Tarn itself is a kettle-hole lake formed by glaciers 18,000 years ago. Movin’ ice scoured and carved the landscape leavin’ a natural bowl, which filled with water as the ice sheet melted. The Tarn has a long and rich history and has traditionally been used for watersports and water based recreation since at least the middle of the 1800’s. The waters are often busy with people rowin’, sailin’, and sailin’ model boats. The Boathouse Tea Room has superb views of the tarn, and a blazin’ log fire. It has a variety of different habitats, attractin’ many different species of wildlife throughout the year. These include red squirrels, otters, badgers, foxes and roe deer. Orford is a village on the east coast of Tasmania, Australia 73 kilometres north-east of Hobart. As it has warmer weather than the rest of Tasmania it is one of the most popular coastal locations for locals with its six pristine beaches. It has an abundance of birds, from tiny wrens to huge black cockatoos and has an Important Bird Area that supports rare fairy terns; red-capped and hooded plovers; pied oystercatchers; and red-necked stints. Wallabies are often in the streets at night, bandicoots in the sand dunes, echidnas on the sides of the roads and the occasional wedge tailed eagle soaring overhead. There are a number of excellent walks in and around Orford including the Convict Road to the site of Paradise Probation Station.

There were two first finishing Hyde Park Harriers. These were Honor Baldry in a PB time of 20:57 at Cross Flatts and Michael Vargas in 19:03 at Bramley. There were eight other PBs. These were by Sioned Lloyd Owen with 24:48 at Woodhouse Moor; Jane Prust with 29:40 and Hannah Sutton with 29:49 at Roundhay; Alice Young with 25:15 at Mile End; George Sullivan with 24:03 at Gedling; Rebecca Gray with 27:24 and Heather Fulton with 29:30 at Roberts Park; and David Grealey with 20:40 at Poolbeg in Ireland.

Top female Age Grade% was 71.84% by Honor Baldry at Cross Flatts and top male Age Grade% was 73.64% by Mike Gallagher at York.
